Hailey Baldwin on Her Rising Model Status: 'I'm Not on the Same Level As Gigi and Kendall'

The high-profile trio of models —Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid and Hailey Baldwin — rack up a combined 20 million Twitter followers, over 85 million Instagram followers and countless Snapchat devotees. And thanks to their booming social media brands, the trio has (controversially) been dubbed the new generation of the supermodel. They’ve walked in runways for Chanel (Jenner and Hadid), shot campaigns for Tommy Hilfiger (Hadid and Baldwin), hocked Magnum ice cream bars (Jenner and Baldwin) and graced the covers of fashion magazines worldwide (all of them).
That said, Baldwin’s the first to admit she’s not quite ready to be considered a “supermodel” just yet.
“I’m not on the same level as Gigi and Kendall,” the 19-year-old daughter of Stephen Baldwin told PeopleStyle at Coach’s Friends of the High Line Summer Party in New York this week. “We’re not in the same place in our careers.”
Although Baldwin said she would “not ever consider herself a supermodel,” she did have something to say about recent comments flying around from legends like Stephanie Seymour and Rebecca Romijn that the new era of social media-bred models aren’t true supermodels.

“That was never said about me, but I think for [Jenner and Hadid], the truth of the matter is it’s a new day and age,” Baldwin said. “No one is trying to disrespect the models from that decade and era, but they are the new faces of the modeling generation along with Karlie Kloss and other big supermodels. So, unfortunately, people can say what they want but they’re still gonna step on the same runways as any other big supermodel this day and age.”
At the same time, she’s quick to admit she and her two pals actually don’t see each other as frequently as their social media platforms may imply. “We don’t hang out that often!” she said, noting that it’s because their “schedules are so crazy.” “We’re all friends. We all have the same job, but we aren’t together that often, especially as a trio.”
“I see Kendall more often than anybody, but it just so happened the three of us were in town at the same time,” Baldwin said, referring to when the group was snapped hanging out together by paparazzi in New York City on Tuesday (above).

In fact, the friendship between Baldwin and Jenner is so strong, they got matching tattoos, which Jenner designed. “I knew I wanted something on these fingers to go together when I put my hands together,” she said. “[Jenner] was like, ‘Why don’t you get ‘PRAY’ since you go to church and it’s a big part of your life?’ She’s a clever cookie, that one.”
