Katy Perry Feels Pressure to Dress on Theme for Met Gala: 'I'm Sure Lady Gaga Is Going to Arrive on a Drone, and I'll Be Like, "S---!'''

Katy Perry is the Queen of dressing for a theme. But when it comes to choosing a look for fashion’s biggest night (a.k.a. The Met Gala!) she finds the whole process a bit restricting.

“For me, Met Gala, it’s great, it’s so much fun, it’s the best party, but you’re a little bit beholden to designers you know,” she told PeopleStyle Sunday at the launch of her Katy Kat collection with CoverGirl. “When I create my own costumes for tour, it’s like whatever the f–k I want to do. It’s just like larger than life. It’s like: Can it move, can it smell, can it — blah, blah, blah, blah?”

And while she promised that she will be adhering to this year’s ‘Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology’ theme (something she experimented with in 2010 with her light bright Cute Circuit dress!), she always feels a bit competitive with ultimate fashion risk-taker and fellow power pop diva, Lady Gaga.

“I know a couple of people are coming like lit up and stuff like that, and I’m like, ‘I did that in 2010, you’re late!,'” she quipped. “I’m going to do something, but I’m sure like Gaga is going to arrive on drone, and I’ll just be like, ‘Grrr! Again! S—!.'”

Both songstresses are known for making grand entrances, and we imagine this year will be no different. And we’re hoping not only for a big dress look from Katy, but also a major makeup moment.

The star just launched her Katy Kat x CoverGirl collection featuring 13 matte lipstick shades and two mascaras — a true black and a blue (the first time CoverGirl has released a blue mascara.)

“I started out experimenting with makeup really early on,” she shared. “It was very strange, my mother wouldn’t let me wear thongs but, she would let me wear red lipstick. I was like, ‘Nobody can see the thong. They can see the red lipstick!’ I didn’t understand it. But at 13 I was wearing blush, lipstick, and mascara. I do a lot of different thematic looks. It’s playful! I just love to play.”

Perry said while she can’t pinpoint a favorite red carpet beauty look from her many red carpets, she can cite the inspiration behind her obsession with makeup.

“All of my personal style did start when I was trying to emulate the pin-up girls,” she said. “I found this book by Gil Elvgren; he was a pin-up illustrated and his [portraits] were great. And they were always in these sort of compromising positions — accidentally showing some underwear and stuff like that. It’s all a bit tongue-in-cheek. But in the future, that could possibly change. It could go full androgynous. I’ve done the no eyebrows, I’ve done all of it, so I’m running out of tricks. Maybe I should just be normal.”

We hope “normal” never enters Perry’s fashion vocabulary.

The gowns are beautiful some of them look like “Prom Gowns,” and it’s by invitation only to atten this event.

Katy should make friends with Gwen Stefani and Kate Hudson. They would be like, SO cool together, I mean so rad and cray cray.

Katie seems like a fun girl and she is also a pretty good singer.

oh la la… such superficial people worrying about such meaningless things. Sometimes you just want to wish them some hard times to realize they have nothing to worry about. I guess the day their youth is gone and media turn their back to put their spotlights on some younger people, there the dark days will be ahead for these narcissistic people. Sorry, there is no such shows in my country so I don’t understand why people are so in awe about that kind of events where you need to be rich and famous to enter and where nothing important actually happens. It’s just another party for their giant egos, such events seem to happen every week.

Katy should stop comparing her to Gaga! She is way beyond talented than her. Try winning a golden globe, Grammy, or be nominated for an Oscar!
Have different genre for albums! Please stick with mainstream childish music

Please everything she does is base off of Gaga! Stop comparing yourself to her! That was 4 years ago. She has proven she is beyond just a popstar
