Kaia Gerber as a Blonde Looks More Like Mom Cindy Crawford Than Ever

03/18/2016 at 03:04 PM ET

Kaia Gerber shares the same auburn-tinged brunette locks as her OG supermodel mom, Cindy Crawford, so it makes sense that the teen has stayed true to her chestnut-hued roots. But almost any lifelong brunette can find it hard not to fall victim to the siren song of peroxide blonde hair, and Gerber is the latest young model to fall under that spell.

If you’re about to lose sleep over Kaia not only stripping her wavy locks of all their naturally sunkissed glory, but also chopping off her voluminous ribcage-length strands, you can rest easy: This is only a wig. The 14-year-old has recently landed a number of high profile fashion gigs, including becoming a face of Alexander Wang’s Spring campaign and the cover of Vogue Paris alongside her mom, so this hair, despite its very realistic appearance, is likely just a fresh look for another shoot.

In the snap she shared today on her Instagram account, captioned simply “just a lil wig :),” Gerber appears almost totally unrecognizable as a towhead — though oddly enough she look more like her mom in her heyday than ever. The new blonde hair is very reminiscent of one of Crawford’s iconic Marilyn Monroe-esque shots taken by Herb Ritts. Clearly, no matter the hair color, the apple doesn’t fall far from the super chic tree.

What do you think of Kaia’s blonde hair? Do you like her better as a blonde or brunette?

She’s so cute! A lot classier than kj

Sally what is the point in mentioning KJ. Article was on the color of her hair…and quite frankly her natural color looks better.

I’m sure the early super stardom will go straight to this little girls head. She should be focusing on school and friends at this age, not traveling the world modeling at only 14. I guess when your mommy is Cindy Crawford, what other choice do you have?

Glad it is not real. It looks typical bimbo Hollywood. She is so much prettier as a brunette.

That color is a terrible choice. She was meant to be brunette. This color looks awful.

The Poor thing has no individualism over her looks… she wants to be like her mom, and still have not that attitude. Is truly sad to watch her Instagram, juste a skinny thing with no elegante, just similar looks to solemne, making a career based on that

The only reason this girl landed some fashion gigs, is her famous mom. She is cute, but not really model material. I work in a model agency, and there are hundred of no-name girls, that have more model qualities than Kaia. It’s a shame that her parents don’t keep her out of this business.

Very disappointed that Cindy Crawford, who I always extol, is allowing her daughter to be put out there like Kim and the rest.

aw, this is kind of sad…i didn’t even read the article….she was such a young natural beauty….and she’s only 14…it’s kind of sad to see her now with her hair bleached out and her lipstick mouth perched open. I thought her mom wasn’t gonna let her get on the fast track modeling game.

just read that it is a wig, thank god 4 that
