All the Details on Amal Clooney's Vintage Yves Saint Laurent Gown (It's Covered in 10,000 Sequins!)

Amal Clooney should add “Ph.D in vintage shopping” to her style résumé, thanks to the gorgeous gown she wore in Berlin Thursday night — which she happened to pick out herself.

Amal supported husband George Clooney at the Berlin Film Festival premiere of Hail, Caesar! wearing a shimmery 1981 Yves Saint Laurent gown with a black tulle overskirt. She picked up the piece herself from London’s popular haute couture vintage shop, William Vintage. The design is not only made from the finest black silk, but also covered in over 10,000 black sequins!

The owner of the store, William Banks-Blaney, told PeopleStyle, “Amal has wonderful taste and chose the dress personally. I was delighted to see such a superb William Vintage discovery come alive on the red carpet.”

He added, “The dress is an wonderful example of the great Yves Saint Laurent; one of the many reasons I included it within my book [25 Dresses: Iconic Moments in Twentieth-Century Fashion] — it’s an iconic and timeless piece by one of the greatest designers of all time.”

Amal’s worn pieces from the shop before, like the 1960 Lanvin two-piece crop top and culottes set, which she paired with metallic point-toe pumps and bombshell waves for Charlotte Tilbury’s flagship opening in London last December.

The fashionable 38-year-old barrister has also been spotted shopping in N.Y.C.’s high-end vintage boutique, What Goes Around Comes Around. Last year she purchased a Chanel knit dress, a metallic dress and mink fur baseball cap on a shopping trip with a friend.

Though we have yet to see Amal wearing said ball cap out and about, we’re hoping it will make it’s debut soon. (She recently went pretty edgy these printed trousers, so anything is possible.)

nice dress

The dress is lovely. But she has the worst posture. If she would straighten up and pull her shoulders back and have her head up, it would do wonders for the silhouette. All of her clothes look so sloppy and slightly cheap because of her posture even though they cost thousands of dollars. That aluminum foil job is just bad, bad, bad. It does nothing for her. I try and stay away from weight comments, but oh my. But it may just be her body type.

Horse head. Very strange couple

I think she looks stunning in the black Yves Saint Laurent. I really don’t know how that dress could ever be “slightly cheap” looking at all…on anyone. She has always seemed to me to be well dressed, especially when out with her husband.

Exquisite! She truly is just gorgeous.

Looks like a skeletor horse..very ugly..amzing since she’s a toygirl so much younger than him, but still looks his age

I would feel just a tad bit uncomfortable sporting her endless supply of high-end overcoats, purses, dresses, etc, etc, if I were a human rights attorney who is rather junior in level. I’m not saying she has to shop at Macy’s to be a good person, but holy cow! Amal, you could feed a family for a month in some countries for the price of one of your jackets. Most of us only have one. Why do you need one in every color?

The dress is beautiful. If she had some meat on her bones her head wouldn’t look so abnormally large. Eat some food lady.
