It’s been 20 years since her tragic death, but iconic Tejano music star Selena Quintanilla is continuing to inspire people. The late singer is the inspiration behind M.A.C cosmetics’ new multi-product limited-edition collection, which will debut in 2016, PEOPLE can exclusively reveal.

“Selena’s talent and beauty, inside and out, have left a colorful, meaningful impact in the world that has continued to grow over the last two decades,” M.A.C creative director James Gager tells PEOPLE. “We have heard the passion and enthusiasm from her fans and wholeheartedly agree that her legacy embodies M.A.C’s philosophy. We are so excited to announce a Selena-inspired M.A.C collection debuting in the latter part of 2016.”

Selena’s sister, Suzette Quintanilla, adds that the singer, who was killed by her fan-club president Yolanda Saldívar on March 31, 1995, had always wanted to launch her own makeup line.

“I am so excited that M.A.C Cosmetics will be releasing a collection in honor of my sister Selena,” Suzette shares. “Helping to create this collection brings me back to all those late-night conversations on our tour bus when she spoke of having her own makeup line one day. If Selena were here she would be beyond ecstatic to have this happening. History is being made.”

Selena’s family is committed to keeping her memory alive and plans to introduce her music to a new generation of fans via a hologram, which will record and tour. Nevada-based company Acrovirt LLC will create what it calls a “digital human essence,” and the tour will be called “Selena the One.”

“By no means is this something that’s creepy or weird,” Suzette told Billboard earlier this year. “We think it’s something amazing. A lot of the new fans that did not get to experience what Selena was about hopefully will be able to get a sense of her with this new technology that’s going to be coming out.”

Mon on

This is great news but why is the Perez suddenly dropped from her name?

The hologram recording and touring is ABSOLUTELY creepy, though I think the makeup line is a nice idea. She had her own great style. Though I’m also wondering about the Perez being dropped from her name. Doubt she’d approve.

I can’t wait to buy the matte. This was an awesome, smart idea on MAC’s part.

Resurrecting someone in the form of a hologram is really disturbing…
Remember Michael Jackson’s performance on some music show.
