Super Bowl 2015: Katy Perry's Halftime Show Includes 4 Wardrobe Changes, 22,000 Crystals and 20 Carats of Diamonds
From her football-themed outfit to her football-themed pedicure to all the hints Moschino designer Jeremy Scott dropped about Katy Perry‘s Super Bowl 2015 halftime show looks, we had a feeling she wouldn’t disappoint in the wardrobe department. And true to form (“form” being a thematic bra and plenty of sparkle), she certainly did not.
She took the stage for “Roar” on a huge puppet lion, dressed in a fiery red, orange and gold two-piece look with 3D flames at the shoulders and hem. Custom LaDuca booties adorned with 12,600 Swarovski crystals were on her feet, and one of her five custom bedazzled microphones was in her hand. (Read more on her accessories designer Erin Lareau‘s extremely sparkly Super Bowl creations below!)
As far as her beauty look goes, Perry’s hair was tied up into her signature high pony (the better to whip around, of course!). High-gloss red lips and nails were the finishing touches — and we’ve got all the scoop on her striking beauty look here!
Song three, “Teenage Dream,” had her dancing among palm trees and surfboards in a beachball-motif bustier set, including a beachball bra (of course). Backup dancers in retro polka-dot bikinis, matching high tops and headbands then took the stage behind her for “California Gurls.”
Her next quick change was for “Get Ur Freak On” with Missy Elliott, which just involved a quick zip of an oversize hoodie with a jersey theme (the 49 is for the fact that it’s the 49th Super Bowl, according to Elle). In case you forgot who you were watching, though, she had her name emblazoned on the back, plus diamonds stitched all over.
“Firework” started with a closeup on Perry’s face to give us a good look at that unbelievable glittery cat-eye and huge Lorraine Schwartz diamond earrings (those were 20 carats of sparkle) — then it zoomed out to show her most impressive quick change yet.
Moschino designer Scott promised some jaw-dropping moments, and he wasn’t kidding: Under her hoodie, she had a silver gown covered in iridescent stars. A large star-shaped cutout at her waist and high slit showed the requisite amount of skin.
On Saturday, the singer’s accessories designer Erin Lareau was still hard at work Saturday afternoon adding the sparkle to Perry’s multiple costumes and accessories.
“Katy’s outfits — plural — were designed by Jeremy Scott with some adjustments by Katy’s own team for quick changes and movement technicalities,” Lareau told PEOPLE on a brief break from attaching an estimated 22,000 total crystals to Perry’s various outfits, microphones (there were 5 in all – see the pic below!) and shoes for this one show.
“I’ve been blinging away,” Laureau said at the time. “I’m at 17,000 Swarovski crystals and still going! The outfits are so, so Katy — colorful, fun, fabulous, strong and yet soft-serve sexy in a cute retro way. She’ll have a glam, glam, glam look!”
Perry was understandably excited for the big, Pepsi-sponsored moment, Tweeting the below photo earlier today. Clearly, she knew a little something about fancy costumes early on.
Which look was your favorite? Did you love the halftime show?
