Jennifer Aniston: The 'Rock' Justin Gave Me Is Not Quite My Style!

01/09/2015 at 02:08 PM ET

While the rest of us are still obsessing over Jennifer Aniston‘s enormous engagement ring, it seems the star is still getting used to it — even two years later. The Cake actress reveals her initial thoughts about the 8-carat diamond ring from fiancé Justin Theroux and more in a recent interview.

When the New York Times reporter gets distracted by her enormous bauble, Aniston addresses the elephant (so to speak) in the room. “It’s a rock, I know,” she says in the interview. “He rocked it up. It took me a while to get used to it.” And although the star loves her ring now, she admits she might not have picked it for herself. “I’m not a diamond girl,” she says. “I’m more Indian jewelry and stuff.”

But “rocks” aside, Aniston shares that she considers Theroux a blessing sent to her by her first love, who died of a brain tumor when they were young. “He would have been the one. But I was 25, and I was stupid. He must have sent me Justin to make up for it all,” she says.

Along with plans for her future nuptials, the star also shared her thoughts on the recent scrutiny surrounding Renée Zellweger’s appearance and how Hollywood’s men are rarely singled out for their appearance and aging.

“There was a big whistle blown out on her, and it was unnecessary,” she says. “Did she really look that different? Would she walk into a room and you’d say, ‘Who is that?’ That’s Renée, from here on down; you can’t hide those pouty little lips.”

“I really do think you’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t,” she goes on. “You either are too fat — ‘Oh my God, she’s gained weight, getting chubby, mid-40s spread!’ — or ‘She’s so skeletal, get some meat on her bones!’ I’ve been on too-thin lists. I’ve been on what-happened-to-her lists.”

What do you think of the star’s engagement ring? Do you have a dream ring in mind? Tell us below!

If she smokes, she should stop. I’d rather have a few extra pounds and a nice face than be thin and leathery.

That ring wouldn’t be my style either. Too big and cloudy that it looks like a cracker jack prize. Was she drunk when she put on her lipstick? It’s all over the place.

Why wouldn’t you pick out a ring together? Didn’t he have any idea of her style?

Your engagement ring SHOULD be a reflection of you. If you like simple, it should be simple. If you need to say the ring isn’t your style, you are being fake and superficial to have some huge thing on your hand. Buy a simple ring! No one is forcing you to sport a rock that does not suit you and doesn’t that say something about a level of hypocrisy? How about trying a new trend? Try honest simplicity. It is a symbol of love. It should be consistent with your character. It doesn’t need to resemble a big marble. That’s just crass. We all know you both have money. You don’t need to ‘rock it up’! Just because you can buy a rock doesn’t mean you should buy a rock! It becomes laughable, and your engagement ring should never be laughable! Everything else you project is a statement about being natural. This should be as well.

I am not a fan of that ring. It looks fake to me … aren’t diamonds supposed to sparkle? It looks dull. If it isn’t her style, why can’t she get a different one? I think she could afford it. Unless Justin would be offended ..? Whatever, as long as they’re happy.
