WATCH AND SHOP: Why Is This Hair Tool So Amazing?

06/23/2014 at 06:00 AM ET

When we heard that this hairbrush is award-winning, has a cult following among beauty editors and is a favorite of women with hair that’s either always tangled or always lacking volume, we had to try it out. And now? Well, now, we’re part of that cult following? One use and we have a feeling you will be, too.

Although brushing your hair may seem like a silly grooming habit, there are actually some serious benefits for keeping your strands sleek and tangle-free: brushing massages the scalp to help produce oil, rids hair of tangles and knots and aids in styling. And this brush works to do all three!

The fact that this brush gets through even the most knotted hair without ripping out a lot of strands is a major feat and just the beginning. We also love it for its teasing abilities. Take it from someone who was never able to master the art of teasing (a backcombing trick to add major volume to your tresses), this brush makes it really easy to add volume.

And yes, we admit it, we also love the brush because of its aesthetic. It just looks so cool and unique, especially in the shiny gold-and-black version! Don’t you agree? We haven’t seen any other brush quite like this one on the market. So obviously we got one of the full-size brushes to keep at home and one of the gold travel versions with the cap to keep in our bags because we couldn’t decide on just one!

Grab one for yourself (and if you’re a mom, definitely pick up one for your kid — we promise it’ll make hair-brushing a whole lot more pleasant for both of you). And don’t forget to nab an extra 10% off orders over $50, plus free shipping, by entering PEOPLE10 at checkout if you’re a first-time shopper.

It is literally a dog brush with thinner bristles for human hair. How is it for curly hair?

@Angie…I know, right? I have one very similar for my cat, but mine is blue =))))…this doesn’t come in blue, does it ?!?

Honestly, this does look stupid, but I got it for my niece who hates to have her hair brushed because she says it hurts so she’s constantly a knotty mess, but it really did work. At least on her. She has pin straight thick hair. It gets the tangles out and I got it with a coupon code (where, I can’t remember) and it seemed like a good purchase. I wouldn’t probably pay full price for it but if you get it with a coupon code, it’s not bad. I have baby fine wavy hair and I tried it out and it worked on me. Not sure if it’ll work on curls or other people but it gently detangled my nieces birds nest hair so it might be worth trying.

I have two daughters that have long hair and I’m curious if this brush works! So i bought it to try it… In my opinion it’s a waste of money coz it doesn’t work at all.. My daughter just end up using it to her doll…

$12.99 at Sally’s Beauty, $11.69 with their club card.
Great product but why pay double the price?

I live in the UK and we’ve had tangle teezers for years. I use them on my young daughters who have waist length hair and they really are amazing. That said, in the UK they cost £13 which is approximately $20 so clearly I’m being ripped off over here (not unusual for this country! )

Another stupid gimmick…. No handle on the brush? Already annoyed…

The Tangle Teezer has been around for years. I absolutely love it! I have fine kinky-curly hair and use the Tangle Teezer to detangle my hair. I even bought the Aqua Splash Tangle Teezer to use in the shower. Also, if you have curly or kinky hair, brush your hair from ‘ends to roots’; not ‘roots to ends’.

Not going to be a miracle worker for my shirley temple curls. Wide tooth comb is always going to be my only tool to comb my hair. IDK why you would brush your hair with anything other than a wide tooth comb??
