Mariah Carey's Love for Fingerless Gloves Reaches a New Level

05/30/2014 at 05:32 PM ET

Kim Kardashian has her bodysuits. Pharrell has his hat. And Mariah Carey has her … fingerless gloves?! Sure, it’s a strange accessory to bring to the red carpet, but the singer’s obsession with gloves continues to evolve. So it’s time to recap.

At the SAG Awards in January, Carey skipped the gown-and-diamonds combo most stars were wearing for a one-shoulder LBD and leather motorcycle-inspired gloves. If her goal was to get people talking, she certainly achieved it. Next, she went for a more casual pair of knit black mitts that let her red mani shine and coordinated with her low-cut black dress at an MTV event in February.

But the most recent chapter in the “Mariah Carey Fingerless Gloves” saga is definitely the most interesting (and makes us wish we could get a look inside her accessories closet). Carey wore a pair of silver stunners that perfectly matched her metallic nails for the Fresh Air Fund gala in downtown Manhattan Thursday, to which she took the subway. And though we suppose they could have been a germ-prevention measure on the grimy N.Y.C. subway, we’re pretty sure these were a purely style-based decision.

So we have to ask: What do you think of Mimi’s favorite trend? Do you rock fingerless gloves? Will you now? Sound off below.

she doesn’t love fingerless gloves, she just hates the aging of her hands. eventually she’ll be wearing scarves and chokers too, to hide her neck.

Being a bit insensitive? It’s medical. Do you not remember her hurting her arm on the movie set? Come on, guys.

Jerz on

She is so in love with herself.

She is so in love with herself.

I can’t stomach her, she makes me sick.

PeeP on

I had seen this going on. I thought one of her hands was injured. You know, at her age with arthritis and all.

JP on

Stupid gloves

What do you mean “At her age”? Nick is into fashion design. He has a line socks and ties. He is making a line of finger-less gloves. She likes them and is supporting his efforts. Her hands are beautiful.

its her decoy to not being questioned about her wedding bands… marriage on the rocks just a matter of time!

She has become so odd.

This girl really needs to embrace getting older. I wish she would realize what an imbecile she looks like. Someone who isn’t on her payroll (lol) needs to tell her to stop dressing like a 20 year old. So sad. LOL.

She looks ridiculous. Has for several years now. Stop dressing that chunky bod like it belongs to a 20-year-old, Meems.

This is all she was waiting on…for someone to notice.

Pam on

Dumb. Tired of seeing her boobs.

I am convinced she has a skin condition she’s been rocking gloves on both bands for months now not at all related to her shoulder I’m a nurse has nothing to do with both hands….skin condition definitely mark my words!!!

I thinks she wears the gloves to cover up her age your hands don’t lie. Plastic surgery for other areas but the hands reveal those age lines.

Love Iana’s observation. I think it’s spot on. This trend will not take off.

no spring chicken,
girl has horrid age spots on hands.

The ignorance in here is laughable. She wears the glove as a reminder of her injury to prevent further damage. So, she wants to wear fashionable ones, is that such a problem??

gagirl on

She had nerve damage to the right hand when she fell. She’s just trying to make the best of the situation. But PeeP….you should HOPE that you live to see 42. That was just an insensitive remark. A lot of you are pretty mean spirited people. Her hands look old, her ring is gone…really?? She sings beautifully and does nothing to hurt anyone and minds her own business.

Did you notice that she hasn’t posted her annual re newing of the vows pics.? I think the gloves are a way of hiding her NOT wearing wedding bands… Maybe Nick got sick of being Mr. Mariah Carey finially!

Karen my hands have looked old since childhood. It’s just a trait some people in my family have. Imagine being a young child and having kids ask why your hands look so old. As a result it caused me to not volunteer to write on posters during group work and I still to this day fold my arms as it is a strong habit I can’t shake. There are worse things kids deal with so mine was minor but it still hurt emotionally. I am very glad my children have smooth beautiful skin on their hands and don’t have to go through the ugly questions I received. Who cares what Mariah’s hands look like. I wish mine were like that instead of 80ish.

Looks horrible like most of her attire

I agree that they are to hide aging hands. Dolly Parton does the same thing. The hands cannot hide your age! It’s sad that women feel that they cannot age with grace in this constant race to be young.

you people are so hateful, it is a good thing that she is in love with herself something most of you hateful women need to be that way you won’t settle for these men that treat you like dirt. it’s very sad that people always have negjtive things to say about people that they only know from the media jealousy is very ugly tyring being happy for someone for a change make 2015 a better year for yourself. might find yourself happy
