Did Amber Heard Update Her Engagement Ring Again? We Investigate

05/21/2014 at 05:10 PM ET

We need to assign an editor to be on Amber Heard engagement ring watch 24/7, because Johnny Depp’s fiancĂ© seems to be getting constant bling updates. Her ring has always been gorgeous, but it looks like Heard might have made some tweaks. Let’s go to the photos.

When Heard first stepped out sporting her ring at Depp’s charity rock show in January, it appeared to be a giant round diamond in a halo setting, set atop a split-shank band. Then she appeared on the red carpet for 3 Days to Kill in February. wearing a completely different ring, which featured a similarly-shaped stone bezel-set into a vintage-feeling scrollwork setting.

We saw that same ring again in March — but this time, it was on Depp’s hand instead, and he acknowledged his “chick’s ring” as a way of confirming his engagement to Heard. So why the ring switch-up? “I have a female engagement ring,” Depp told David Letterman recently. “It was too big for my girl.”

Then at Cannes, Heard stepped out wearing what appeared to be an upgraded version of ring no. 1. Now the apparent split-shank band has been graced with two pear-shaped stones on either side of the main diamond. But we can’t tell if it’s a separate setting altogether, extra help from the surrounding bands or a few tweaks to the first ring. Either way, we wouldn’t mind being on Depp’s jewelry gift list in the future.

What do you think of Heard’s updated ring? Do you think it’s the same one she started out with? Share your thoughts below!

It’s pretty. Looks like she added some sort of ring guard. Perhaps, the original was too big and because of the setting it couldn’t be enlarged?? Just a guess…

Looks like the same center stone, but with added diamonds and setting for support. I’m sure she didn’t want to seem ungrateful, but perhaps the giant diamond moved around too much on her finger? Poor girl!

nice to be engaged to him! who cares what the ring looks like

It seems rude to want a different ring than the one he presented to her. Idk.

I think the ring in Cannes and the one in the charity it’s the same, and the difference it’s the light. Because i do remember the first pictures when she was trying to hide the ring and you can see the other stones by the side. By the way, Depp told that this is the original ring he designed and he used to proposes to her. The other ring, the chick’s ring, it’s an antique he bought to be an alternative to the original because it’s too big and heavy and he fear she could burn the retine of somebody with the too big diamond LOL!

Actually if you look at it closely it looks like there is a band underneath the main engagement ring. I saw a current photo of Johnny and he had a band on his ring finger on his left hand. Just saying……

This is the ring she always wear. The ring he designed. She wore the other ring at the 3D2K premiere and from time to time, but this other seems to be her favorite

She’s not a dumb girl, that’s for sure. She knows she has Johnny wrapped around her finger (no pun intended). So she’s asking for a bigger, more expensive ring. He’s such a fool! She’s taken all his dignity away. He just seems like a creepy old man now who’s controlled by young women.

Who writes these articles? Ring has been updated? I think the proper word is upgraded.
