By now you know Shailene Woodley is very candid when it comes to sharing her healthy — and very hippie-inspired — outlook on life. But the actress wasn’t always so comfortable with herself.

“I realize I was good at being outwardly positive because that’s how I am by nature,” she tells the June issue of InStyle. “But internally? I was so mean to myself. Realizing I need to make a shift was a big moment for me. F–k you, insecurity. F–k you, lack of confidence!”

The star, 22, is having a crazy busy year, jumping from the Divergent promo tour straight into The Fault in Our Stars release. And she’s been doing so in a number of head-turning gowns, or on some occasions, just a pair of denim cutoffs and some flip-flops.

“I’m in a place where I feel healthier than I’ve ever been, and my body is exactly where it wants to be,” she shares. “I feel like I’m a woman. My boobs shrank. No one tells you that when you lose weight. No bra, no problem.”

And Woodley has learned early on not to care about outside opinions. “I’m done living for other people. I’m done being a people pleaser. I’m done thinking about what people think about me.”

That’s why she makes sure to keep those who share a similar outlook close to her. “People say my generation is irresponsible. I think we’re on top of things actually. Maybe I feel this way because I surround myself with like-minded people. Doing the right thing always makes you feel good. And it’s contagious.”

Great article and she looks amazing on the cover.

Mel on

Is it just me or does that cover look seriously photoshopped? She looks like she has a plastic barbie arm and leg.

I almost never wore a bra when I was in my early 20s either. Get back to us when you’re 40 and have nursed a child!

Julie on

She’s not big enough to worry about a bra.

All magazine covers are heavily photoshopped. It’s just a cartoon loosely based on the features of the person.

Tiff on

All women should be so lucky as to have her confidence.

LOL! on

Do it girl, for as long as you can! I wish I’d worried about it less when I was younger because it gets to the point where that’s just not an option!

Smithy on

She’s a cutie…..a little to cool for school…..but I think she’ll grow out of that.

Yeah, tell that to anyone pregnant, nursing, or later than a D-cup! Ain’t gonna happen lol!

whoa – never seen such a badly altered cover before – limbs way too Long, toes way too Long – if you have to photoshop at least make her look natural!
