Kate Hudson: I Want Women to Feel Sexy in My Workout Clothes

05/06/2014 at 11:00 AM ET

Does anyone else feel like they have a better workout when they’re wearing a cute gym outfit? Us too. And Kate Hudson‘s latest designs for the Spring 2014 collection of her Fabletics workout line are designed to give you that ego boost even before you start your sweat session.

“I really wanted to make women feel like there was a sexiness to the clothes, without it being too revealing,” the actress, 35, tells PEOPLE. “I think it’s fun to wear [clothes that show] little peeks of skin, so I did a lot of T-shirts that have cutouts and added a little bit more detail to the sports bras, which makes it really fun.”

While Hudson is best known for her stunning red carpet looks, she says her Fabletics designs are much more in line with her day-to-day style.

“I obviously love clothes, and in my life I get opportunities to wear very high fashion, really fun girlie stuff, but this is my [everyday] life — wearing leggings, whether I’m working out in them or just going out with my friends and running around with my kids,” she says.

As for her exercise routine, Hudson maintains it’s all about varying her workouts.”I switch it up all the time, whether it’s as simple as just getting on an elliptical or treadmill to taking a spinning class to dancing to running around with my kids. I’ll try anything. I don’t know if I’d get into bodybuilding, but if I had a movie that meant I had to build up, I think it would actually be really fun to see what my body could do!”

Hudson hopes to instill her passion for staying active in her sons, Ryder, 10, and Bingham, 2. “They learn from what they see, so I think they see how active [I am],” she says. And it seems like they are already taking after their mom’s passion for physical activity. “Ryder’s always been involved in sports or karate, and he’s obsessed with hockey,” says the star. “Bing loves to play soccer. He loves football, and he’s actually kind of into golf. He’s got a really good little golf swing for a 2-year-old.”

I like wearing cute workout clothes :)

I want to feel sexy in my workout clothes too, but my body and face doesn’t look like hers. Poop!!!

No. It’s called a workout for a reason. You’re not meant to look “cute and sexy” during a workout. You’re not there trying to pick up guys, you’re there to get fit. NO LUNKS!!!

I actually really like this brand, though I do wonder how much she’s *actually* involved. I have been a member for almost 6 months and think the quality is great (and the price very affordable for us “normal” people). The only issue in my opinion is they run out of sizes rather quickly, (and don’t seem to get in more in time for me to make my monthly selection.) Jopefully this is something that will change as they grow:)

I just order some of these workout clothes and should be getting them by tomorrow. I cannot wait. I didn’t order them to look cute though. I am sure after working out, running a sweating my butt off I won’t look cute no matter what I am wearing. lol But as long as I’m comfy in them, that is what matters. :-)

I agree, Chantel! I typically lay my running clothes out the night before, and waking up at 6:15 to run, it helps seeing some fun clothes to wear. Whatever gives you a boost, right?

Kate, I love your clothes and order a lot of them. But, you have the WORST customer service department in the world! They don’t speak English and they are rude and do not offer the customer any help whatsoever! The first outfit I ordered was a pair of capri pants and a matching top. I needed another size in the pants so I called for an RMA# and was told that when they saw the tracking number they would send the Medium. 4-6 weeks later I still had not received them so I called and waited on hold for over 30 minutes to be told they no longer had the color, they were not in the mail, there were no other pretty colors left, and I could not get a refund. I have since ordered more but am really getting pissed because I cannot order separates and do not like or need the complete “outfits”. I am super pissed off as there are many more things to complain about. If you want this to be a success, it would behoove you to get English speaking customer service people, train them well, and be on the customer’s side. THIS is how you retain customers and make a successful business. I have been screwed numerous times by your company and have had it!

no real woman can look hot in that shirt, also, no woman workout with a huge diamond ring and a gold bracelet.

After reading Boom’s comment, I will NOT be ordering any of Kate’s line. Customer service is key and if that sucks it speaks volumes about the company. Outsourcing your customer service to save $$ often involves having phone staff who do not speak fluent English. This is very annoying and puts customers off to the point where they might throw their hands in the air and take their business elsewhere (Boom and now, me!)

Great designs!
