Lorraine Bracco on Maintaining Her 35-Lb. Weight Loss: 'I'm Doing Something Right!'

She’s known for taking care of others in her roles as a therapist on The Sopranos and a meddling mom on Rizzoli & Isles, and Lorraine Bracco confesses that her caretaking tendencies in real life led to her gaining weight she just couldn’t shed.

At 183 lbs., “The last person on the ‘take care of’ list was me. I let myself go,” she tells ABC News. But it ended up being taking care of her aging parents that finally got her to turn her life around. “We were sitting there, dividing [their] medications, who gets what when. It was insane. I watched and realized, ‘I don’t want to go like that.’ I want to live every day the best I can be.”

After her parents passed away in 2011, Bracco enlisted a life coach and cut out sugar, dairy and almost all gluten. And now, eating fruit and Kind bars instead of dessert, she’s lost her sweet tooth altogether. “I was a huge Twizzler eater … The other day I said, ‘I haven’t had this in three years,’ and I had half a piece,” she says. “I ended up spitting it out because I no longer have a taste for it. It was so sugary, it was almost like poison to me.”

Bracco has a new book, To the Fullest, coming out next year, which will share recipes, cleanses and tips — “It’s a body-mind-spirit thing,” she says. And despite the added benefit of looking fabulous in her clothes, Bracco’s mostly loving the extra energy she has. “”I am still a vibrant, contributing human being and I am not dead yet,” she says. “I laugh because I used to wake up and everything ached before I got out of bed. Now I jump out of bed! I’m doing something right.”

What do you think of Bracco’s body makeover? What’s your best great-energy secret?

She looks exactly the same.

Tango on

She looks rough, in BOTH photos.

zombie_hands on

which one is the before and after picture?

Anon on

Good for her, but why does EVERY celebrity who loses weight feel compelled to put out some all knowing book to teach others?? As if they’ve stumbled upon some new discovery that hasn’t already been talked about in 10,000 other books. Within a year, it’ll be in the $5 bargain bin. Sorry to be a sourpuss!!

If that’s a 35 lb weightloss that is depressing. Needs to find a stronger pair of spanx.

She looks the same. Me thinks someone is telling a tall tale

Smithy on

That’s 35 pounds? Really?

Donna on

Both photos look the same to me. Too bad the consensus seems to think so too.

That’s very depressing if that is indeed a 35lb weight loss. I love her and kudo’s if she did lose the weight BUT I can’t tell which one is before and after.
:( :( :(

You commenters are all hideous people through and through. Lorraine looks fantastic!

Everyone knows which is the after picture, I think. Any opportunity to be hurtful though I guess… I think she looks good.

She looks fine in both photos.

Now I get it, it’s an “after” and “after” photo. She’s maintaining the weight she originally lost, which is not reflected in either of the photos. Concise reporting there, People.

Her arms, chest and waist are the exact same girth so where’d the 35 lbs come off, her behind?

She looks great.

All these hateful comments, you people probably weigh over 400 pounds and are ugly to boot.

She definitely looks better. I saw photos of her at James Gandolfini’s funeral last year and she didn’t look so great. (weight-wise) Congratulations on the weight loss, Lorraine! And now I feel like watching Goodfellas again…

I love Lorraine from way back when she was in Good Fellows. She’s a very talented actress. She looks so much better than when she was on the Soprano’s and that’s not only because she lost so much weight. I now love her on Rizzoli and Isles. Keep looking good Lorraine…your an inspiration.

You go girl! You look great!

Ms. Bracco is a beautiful woman. She just happens to shine more on the after photo – not so much because she lost weight (which I can definitely see!) – but because she oozes with more confidence. You go girl! Hold your head up high!

Joe on

I can tell she lost 35lbs. One chin is missing.

I read that same story in huffpost today. The after pic on that site shows how amazing she reallly looks

Sheila on

Which is before and which is the after photo? She looks exactly the same except for the pic on the right her boobs look bigger and she should have worn her Spanx to get rid of those panty lines.

Jenna on

Love her! Can’t wait to read her book.

Eve on

I see no difference whatsoever in these pix. She used to be so pretty and thin. What a shame that she let herself go like this.

I would do her! Either pic

I would do her. Either picture

the “weight loss” must have been all in her butt..typical Italian woman..my fellow leg enthusiasts and i agree the bed argument scene in Goodfellas= one of the best legs/pantyhose scenes ever.she still looks great to me!thanks.

I don’t think she looks at all the same — in fact, I find the “after picture” to be unrecognizable. I had to read the name twice because I would NEVER have recognized her. In the before picture, it’s her face, but in the after picture, it looks like someone different. I think she looks better in the “before” pic.

She was always a good looking woman but it is great that she has been able to do this – too bad her screen patient didn’t take care – it appears that he ate himself to death.

giraffeh2o on

Honestly, as others have said, both photos look the same. Maybe they used the wrong photo? Congrats to her on the weight loss, though. Doesn’t really matter what we see or think anyway.

Tiff on

I can tell a difference. In the second picture she does look slimmer and much happier.
