Drew Barrymore loves to play around with makeup, which was one of the reasons she founded her own cosmetics line, Flower Beauty. The actress also loves to share beauty advice with fans, and she has a very strong opinion for brides-to-be: Don’t go crazy with the face paint on your wedding day.

“That day is so surreal and important and long-lasting for people, I think the biggest mistake you can make is to overdo it,” she said at her Flower Beauty spring launch in N.Y.C. “Look like yourself on your wedding day — don’t go with crazy spiral curls and some heavy foundation and look back at that picture and be like, ‘Whoa, that doesn’t look like me.’ It should be you but the most enhanced, beautiful natural version of yourself.”

And for those brides thinking about making a big beauty move for the trip down the aisle, Barrymore urges for a softer approach. “I appreciate some women who are like, ‘I really want to change my hair color for that day,’ but it’s not the time to play around. If you are thinking of doing something bold like a nail, pick a shade that has powders and grays and neutrals in it so it tones down the ‘cuckoo factor.’ I think wedding days and ‘cuckoo factor’ are not a good combination.”

As for her own bridal look, the star (who married Will Kopelman in 2012) said she was all about keeping her look clean.

“I tried to do a dark lip on my own wedding day, and I just wasn’t feeling it. I went very natural. It took me 10 minutes to do my hair and I wore very little makeup, and I’m glad I did. I’m all for bold, but I just find that’s not the day for it.”

Ms Barrymore offers solid advice about looking like yourself on your wedding day, and since some women do wear daily bold makeup, I think it would be ok to go bold on your wedding day if it’s consistent with who you usually are. I think she’s right though, if bold isn’t you, your wedding day may not be a good time to experiment. I’ve met some of my couples months in advance and then couldn’t recognize the bride when I arrive to officiate the wedding. lol, but truthfully, the joy is what makes a bride beautiful and I’ve never seen an ugly bride. :) http://www.withthiskissitheewed.com

When she’s right, she’s right!

Really good advice! It is a good idea to wear neutral shades instead of bold shades for a wedding.

I agree – a lot of brides go w/an up-doo and never ever wear their hair up! they get their makeup done and get air brushed foundation and look over-done. be yourself – your future hubby wants to look at you (the person he fell in love with) not some overdone tramp from a bordello.

I totally agree and she’s perfect!

And here’s a tip for pregnant women, Drew– Don’t eat like a starved pig for 9 months! Sheesh, tone it down, girl. Having a baby isn’t an excuse for staying too long at the trough, and most likely you will never be able to lose all of it again.

Wow Bob, something tells me you’re a jerk.

AMEN!!! so many people look absolutely ridiculous on their day because they have on too much make up. I didn’t even recognize a cousin of mine!
