Sexy Swimsuit Showdown: Gloria from Modern Family vs. Shoshanna from Girls In a Neon Monokini

To look at them, you wouldn’t think Modern Family‘s Gloria Delgado (left, played by Sofia Vergara) and Girls‘s Shoshanna Shapiro (played by Zosia Mamet) had much in common — especially sartorially. Gloria tends to favor short, tight and low-cut wrap dresses and huge heels, while Shoshanna’s tastes veer toward the girlie-to-juvenile. Gloria goes for huge, voluminous waves, while Shoshanna is known for her questionable side buns. But there is, apparently, one item of clothing on which the characters can agree: this sexy $450 Agent Provocateur monokini.

Shoshanna’s suit made its big debut on this week’s episode of Girls (see it in motion here) shortly before she had an epic meltdown in front of all of her friends. It was a bold choice for the normally reserved character, who is more frequently seen in reserved A-line dresses and loose tees, but it might have signaled that she was about to break out of her shell and make herself heard. We’re not quite sure how Shoshanna could score a $450 suit on her student budget, but that’s the magic of television.

The suit — in style and budget — is much more in keeping with glamorous trophy wife Gloria Delgado. Vergara was spotted filming scenes for Modern Family at Sydney, Australia’s Bondi Beach wearing the neon monokini. And if you were wondering how closely Vergara’s style aligns with Gloria’s, you may remember that the star has already worn this sexy swimsuit off duty while on a vacation in Greece last year. She changed up the look (a smidge) for her character by adding hoop earrings and a purple wrap.

So who wore this suit best? What do you think about the coincidence? Tell us below!

That is not a flattering suit! (Or is it the pix?) Geesh, to make Sofia look less than gorgeous requires effort! Her curves look so much better in a halter top, tiny bottom. And yes, this is from a girl’s girl (props to them!) shaped like a teenage boy Lol

Sofia could wear a garbage bag and still look amazing.

Sofia looks great in it, while Shoshanna does not.

I wish this suit didn’t cost a kidney! Love it!

The green triangle in the center, on both women, is what I don’t like…
Sofia looks better overall…I love the skirt!

Sofia does look great and the other pic is not as flattering, however, Sofia probably spent 6 hours in hair and makeup before her pic was taken.

This must have been written by someone that doesn’t watch Girls. Shoshanna’s lifestyle is facilitated by her wealthy parents. A $450 swimsuit isn’t a stretch when she lives alone in a Soho apt. Maybe do a little research next time?

Sometimes i think stylists feel that just because something is designer or expensive, it’ll look good. I don’t dislike the suit, but I think you need a very specific body type to wear it to avoid looking “boxy” because of the almost horizontal lines cutting the midsection. SV’s hourglass figure is more conducive IMO. ZM has a very nice figure – I just don’t think this suit flatters her.

I cannot compare the two, because the picture of Shoshanna is not very clear. However, I will say the suit makes for some interesting tan lines. LOL

Sofia wins.
