If anyone knows major red carpet moments, it’s Brad Goreski, who has created some of the most memorable looks of the past few years on clients including Jessica Alba and Rashida Jones. And with fashion week in full swing, the star stylist is busily scouring the runways and visiting showrooms for upcoming red carpets. And of course he (like us) has Oscars on the brain. With the big night just a few weeks ago, Goreski talked to PEOPLE about which gowns from New York Fashion Week he’d like to see on which stars on March 2 — and spilled on the nerves and perks that come along with dressing stars for their big night.

“The toughest thing about picking the gown is that you know that all eyes in the world are watching … You want your client to have a moment when they step out of their car. You want people to gasp, and you want people to see them in a way that they’ve never been shown before,” he says. “There’s excitement coupled with the pressure, but that’s why you prep early and that’s why you have as many fittings as you feel like you need.”

As for the fun part? “The finishing touches!” he says. “I love finding the gown but then I like finding what my ‘spin’ is going to be for my clients … It’s about finding a special piece of jewelry or a really great bag. Something that is unexpected, that could also become a trend that other people will pick up on.”

Goreski is also bringing his particular brand of global style to your desk, with a “Colors of the World” collection for Post-it inspired by the cities he loves. And with his new endeavor on the brain, he picked gowns hot off the runway for three of the women he’s excited to see on the Oscars red carpet.

For Cate Blanchett, he loved this Mykonos-inspired, ocean-colored Zac Posen gown with a massive skirt. “The Queen of the night should be in the biggest gown!” he says. Julia Roberts, gets a shimmering KaufmanFranco gown (that our editors are loving for the Oscars too!): “Sexy, glamorous and strong … just like N.Y.C.” And finally, for Lupita Nyong’o, he loves a bright, Rio de Janeiro-appropriate Oscar de la Renta ballgown. “Electric energy, bright color,” he says, which is perfectly in line with the bold hues the 12 Years a Slave star has been loving.

I can’t imagine spending any evening in a dress like the first one. How would you move? How would you sit down? And, OMG what if you won and had to get up the stairs – how embarrassing. On top of all that, it’s ugly but it does look like something Cate Blanchett would wear….UGH.

I could definitely see Cate & Julia in the dresses he picked for them. But I don’t really care for the one he likes for Lupita. That type of hemline doesn’t really do it for me.

That green monstrosity would swallow Cate. But she likes them odd, but I sure hope not. Great color for Lupita, but not a particularly pretty hemline. Not a good Oscar dress. Maybe Golden Globes.

Is it strange the I can see all 3 women in these dresses?

He wants people to gasp when the stars step out of their cars? Don’t worry Brad, I will definitely gasp if Kate,Julia or Lupita wears any of these dresses you picked!

I think he did a good job…he has taste. I don’t care for the green one but I do the others.
