What We're Buying: Stylish Button-Ups, Fancy Flats and the Perfect 'Tough Pearls'

Have you bought anything you loved lately? In the PEOPLE StyleWatch offices, the answer to that question is usually “Yes.” Below, check out the inexpensive shirt that goes with everything, the best flats ever and more items we’ve just gotta talk about.

Katie Kauss, Associate Photo Editor: The minute I saw this Old Navy striped button-up, I was sold — and not just because it’s under $35 and the reviews are glowing (though those helped too). It fits perfectly into my everyday wardrobe. It’s flowy and casual, but with the right accessories it can be dressed up or down. That’s why it’s the perfect desk-to-date night shirt, in my opinion: I can button it up for the office and undo a button or two (and add a necklace! Mind out of the gutter!) for after-work drinks.

Alex Apatoff, Style News Editor: Several years ago, I inherited the perfect pair of Marc Jacobs flats from a former People.com editor who has impeccable taste and, in a happy coincidence, the same shoe size as me. They were the elusive perfect dress flats: Fancy yet comfortable, great with any hemline and not at all mumsy (which flats can sometimes be when paired with a nice dress).

Of course, I wore them to shreds, so I’ve been on the hunt for another pair just like them, and I think I finally found them on Bluefly.com. These Salvatore Ferragamo flats share the same almond-shaped toe (not too witchy, not too slipper-like) and classic cut, with a tiny heel to dress them up a bit more. And the best part is, because I got them on Bluefly, they were marked way down from retail — even before I used a discount code. It’s not quite a hand-me-down, but it’s the next best thing!

Heather Viggiani, Assistant Editor: I got this necklace on sale from J. Crew over the weekend and I’m already wearing it. What I’m most excited about is the fact that we just closed our March issue and “Tough Pearls” are a super hot trend for spring. That means I’ll be wearing it now … and much later! Also, I’m a total sucker for J. Crew’s jewelry, so I couldn’t pass this up.

Rosa Heyman, Executive Assistant: I didn’t think my love affair with leather could get any more serious until I saw this top over the weekend at Elle Boutique on Magazine Street in New Orleans. I was already starting to have serious premature anxiety about how I would be able to continue to feed my leather addiction during the summer months when, thankfully, the stars aligned and I found this unicorn top (so named because it’s so elusive): A wearable year-round white vegan leather top. (I found it here in black for just $18 — think I should get two?)

During the winter it’ll look great under a black blazer at the office, and can easily transition to the drinks-after-work scene when paired with some gold jewelry. In the summer, when I finally stop looking like Casper the Friendly Ghost, I can’t wait to wear it with white jeans and show off my tan.
