Matthew McConaughey's Red Carpet Style M.O.: It's All About the Bold Jackets

We hope Matthew McConaughey keeps winning awards because a.) We love his acceptance speeches and b.) We love to talk about his tuxedo style. The actor has definitely mixed things up on the carpet, eschewing the classic tux seen on most actors for some fun colors, textures and fabrics.

From left, The Dallas Buyers Club star kicked off awards season in a metallic Saint Laurent blazer with black satin lapels styled with a crisp white shirt, black trousers and a bow tie. At the Golden Globes he elevated his jacket game, selecting a three-piece Dolce & Gabbana design featuring an emerald velvet blazer teamed with a matching bow tie. Next at the Critics’ Choice Awards, McConaughey gave his best sexy stare in a silver houndstooth Lanvin tuxedo, proving the man loves a shiny topper. And most recently at the SAG Awards, the face of Dolce & Gabbana showed more loyalty to the brand, selecting a textured printed suit jacket and coordinating trousers.

Now only two questions remain: Which designer will he choose for the Oscars (we have a feeling he’s going to nab the statue), and will he or won’t he be sporting facial hair? (He’s been clean shaven for the last two, so it’s anyone’s guess.)

What do you think of the actor’s unique jacket choices? Share your thoughts below!

I really haven’t appreciated his jackets but at least he’s doing something different, not the same ol boring black suits. When he wins the Oscar I’m sure we’ll remember his suit like we remember what actresses wore when they won. He does give the best speeches.

I love his jackets too, but does anyone see that he does not look well. I would hope that he has recovered from his drastic weight loss for this role, but he does not appear to be the same vibrant person that I saw so often running on some beach. I wish him well….

I agree–he does not look well. He looks drawn and worn (and this does not seem to simply because of aging)…

He always looks handsome but I wish he would close his mouth every once in awhile. His mouth is always hanging open. :/

Kudos to Matthew (or maybe his stylist)… Great fit, fabric, and form… my only complaint would be the pre-tied bow ties… a horror in my book. Many of his pieces are very vintage inspired, which I love! He is one of the few from the Golden Globes that were on my favorites list… take a look at all the amazing things happening in European men’s fashion… the USA is SO behind!

He has a lot more hair than he had 10 years ago . . . hmmm.

What happened to Matthew?! I dont care if he won 50 oscars for that movie, it seems to have broken something in him. I hope he is able to take the time to regain his mojo…and I’m sorry but his head looks so long!! What is up with that? I don’t really recognize him as Matthew McConaughey anymore

He and Camilla have both looked classy and elegant at all of the events this year. The only look I did not like was the gold jacket he wore last week. Only Elvis could wear a shiny gold jacket and make it look great.

He dresses amazingly. Not just another black and white tux. Awesome Matthew!!
