Britney Spears promised to get personal with her new album Britney Jean, and she meant it — if a very candid interview in January’s InStyle (on stands Friday) is any indication.

In the profile, which follows Spears as she prepares for her upcoming Las Vegas gig, she answers reader questions about being a mom, growing into her style and sympathizing with Kim Kardashian for undergoing scrutiny while she was pregnant. On watching Kim get emotional on TV about the criticism, Spears says, “I was like, ‘Bless her heart,’ because I remember that time … That should be the time when your body is most treasured. I loved being pregnant for so many reasons, not to mention the sex is awesome then.” Like we said: Very candid.

That came out of a question about her super-fit shape, a result of the “tremendous physical demands” of the Vegas show. Though she decries the public body scrutiny, she does say “In this business, you make a deal with the devil … what I do calls for me to look good. People expect that. I kind of take it as my job.”

Though she admits to being harder on herself during performances, she has relaxed on the style front as she’s grown up. “When I was younger, I cared a lot more about what I wore,” she says. “But the older you get, the more you think about what’s easy and comfortable. And, as a mom, I’m a little bit more conservative.”

The star dishes on her style crushes, her skincare routine, her go-to relaxation secret and the seven staples in her closet (plus so much more!) in the January issue of InStyle, so pick one up this week or visit for more (including her changing looks and best red carpet moments!).

What do you think of the new, candid Britney? Are you excited to see her new show?

I wouldn’t read an interview about Britney’s style… She always looks like she just rolled out of bed.

Love her! I Like that she doesn’t try to be someone she isn’t and that she’s more like everyone reading these articles than any other celebrity. How many of us are decked out in heals grabbing a frozen yogurt? She wears sweatpants and jeans like the rest of us.

I feel badly for her. She has lost the spark that she used to have that made her a great talentless star. Her eyes seem vacant now and she seems like she’s running on batteries.

That cover is so photoshopped. She looks like Debbie Gibson.

She needs to retire before people only remember her as a robot who can’t dance

gest on

did she actually sit down for this interview or did her team email the answers to the magazine like they’ve been doing? And Britney is the last person people should take advice from mostly because everything she says is just so dumb

Tawny Jones on

Britney Spears is beautiful, talented & adorable.

@Megan…I so agree. That picture of Britney is so photoshopped. She just doesn’t have the same spark as when she did before. Its like daddy took control of everything including per personality

I’m confused… she says when she was younger she cared more about what she wore. Yeah right, she wore no shoes into a truck stop bathroom. When she was younger her “staples in her closet” were cut off shorts, tank tops and Ugg boots. She needs a stylist—period. Don’t get me wrong, I adore Britney. She’s a celebrity and like she says, it’s her “job” to look good!

oh my God, I love her.
