Miley Cyrus's Stylist On the Star's, Um, Style Evolution: 'Of Course She's Changing!'

09/24/2013 at 01:09 PM ET

Though it may seem at times like Miley Cyrus‘s style is just “as bad as I wanna be,” it turns out there is a method to her madness — and a great styling mind behind the whole endeavor.

That mind belongs to Simone Harouche, who started styling Cyrus way back in her Hannah Montana days and also works with stars from Nicole Richie to Christina Aguilera (not to mention designs a handbag line, Simone Camille, in her free time). And she defends Cyrus against the latest style criticism, chalking it up to a mixture of her age and her new attitude.

“People wanna freak out and be like, ‘She’s changing!'” Harouche says in her episode of StyleHaul‘s StyleCore. “Well, of course, she’s changing. What were you doing when you were 20?”

She also says she loves “looking back at the evolution of videos I’ve done with her,” from the relatively demure “Party in the U.S.A.” to the most recent “Wrecking Ball,” which, well, you know. “She’s growing up and figuring stuff out. When I was 20, thank God I wasn’t televised and seen by the world.”

For lots more from Harouche — including the best way to distress motorcycle boots just like you’ll see on her clients — check out the video above, then tell us what you think of Harouche’s thoughts on Cyrus’s style.

She is devolving…

Lisa on

I’m 48 and after seeing this I thought back to when I was 20. I wasn’t horrible but I wan’t a saint either. Thank goodness FB and phone cameras weren’t around back then. I can’t imagine living in today’s world as young person. Everyone is so judgmental and brave behind their computer or phone screens.
