Heidi Klum's Cornrows: Are They In ... Or Are They Out?

We’ve seen tons of stars experiment with super-tight braids this summer, but Heidi Klum is never one to merely give a trend a try.

That’s why we weren’t surprised to see her step out with a full head of cornrowed braids (and a beachy Theodora & Callum scarf) in N.Y.C. on Sunday, fresh from her Bahamian vacation.

Anyone who visited the Bahamas in middle school knows the allure of coming back with beaded cornrows or hair wraps to show that you went on a cool, tropical vacation. And in fact, Klum did seem to have gotten her braided style in solidarity with her two daughters, who sported similar looks.

Klum can pull off things the rest of us mere mortals cannot, but we’re split on the Bo Derek look on the N.Y.C. streets. Half of us think it should stay on the beach, and the other half think it’s a creative way to stay cool in the city’s scorching temperatures.

Tell us: Where do you fall in the great braid debate?

If spending all day at the beach, in and out of the water, it’s just easier to deal with having your hair in cornrows. It’s not attractive but it’s practical.

First we see her pulling down her Bikini bottoms and exposing her butt now we see her in cornrows That we usually see on a back person and not a white one.Is she that desperate for attention.

cornrows on white people are silly period on

Definitely silly. Just STAHP it with the cultural appropriation.

i don’t really view cornrows as a “black thing” i grew up in a mixed neighborhood and little white girls would have corn rows all the time and they were cute. Heidi doesn’t look bad at all.

I give this look two thumbs down.

who cares!

Fed up with racism on

If white people shouldn’t wear corn rows, then black people shouldn’t wear straight hair or straight wigs. You people are ridiculous. Braids look good on some people and bad on other people. It has nothing to do with race.

I think the people saying white pepper shouldn’t get cornrows are referring to the fact that white people tend to wash their hair every day or every few days, so sitting there and getting your hair braided only to turn around, take it down and wash it seems like a colossal waste of time. As for black people straightening their hair (I’m natural and rarely straighten my hair) it would last longer than someone who had the texture of a white person’s hair getting cornrows. I say to each his own. If she wants to rock cornrows or an afro let her, it’s not my hair. I personally don’t like this look on her, but who cares. Looks like she had fun and was in the moment.

Seriously Tarah – you must be black to be that jealous of a white woman who can rock rows.

I think it looks nice her hair is holding it…
