The fashion police have finally put someone behind bars.

After more than seven months on trial for tax evasion, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana (the design duo behind the celeb-loved line that carries their names) were convicted and sentenced Wednesday to 20 months in jail, according to WWD.

The designers had already been hit with a $440 million fine by Italy’s Tax Commission as punishment for their crimes, which stemmed from a 2008 investigation into the 2004 sale of Dolce & Gabbana to a Luxembourg-based company. Italian officials believed they were using it as a holding company, designed to keep the designers from paying Italy’s high corporate tax rates.

Although the case had been dismissed once (in 2011), and though their lawyer had requested a full acquittal in the current trial, Italian judge Antonella Brambilla saw enough merit in the case to put the designers behind bars.

The duo plans to appeal, but in the meantime, we wonder if we can expect plenty of stripes from their spring collection this September.

Tell us: What do you think of the ruling?

Always amazes me when the rich feel above the law and will do whatever to avoid paying taxes. Talk about greed! Shame on them and they deserve to spend time in jail.

I know it is not supposed to be funny.. but that last sentence seriously made me laugh out loud.

Everything will be fine if they get put in the same jail cell. Be just like home to them.

Wonder if their “hollywood” friends will bail them out? LOL

I love it! Overpriced designer that likely uses sweat shops to make their clothes, yet don’t want to pay their taxes. European countries do not mess around with tax cheats, nor should they. But the prison they go to will likely not be a big deal and more of a country club from what I’ve heard. Kudos to the judge that saw through everything and did this.
