After seven years of marriage, Dean McDermott wanted to change things up a little.

So when he approached L.A. jewelry designer Neil Lane about creating a special anniversary gift for his wife Tori Spelling, McDermott cut to the chase: “Dean wanted something unusual, different and something very special and celebratory,” Lane tells PEOPLE. “Every year he gets Tori a ring to honor a renewal of their vows and this year, their 7th year of marriage, was really important to him. He loves her so much and it had to be special.”

Mission accomplished. After Lane mulled over many designs in short order — “I had less than a week to come up with the perfect gift,” he says — the result was a dazzling ring set in 18k gold with over 150 small rose cut diamonds, for a total of about 3 carats. And the fun part? “It spins around!” says the celebrated jeweler. “It’s a diamond ball, a little diamond world, and Tori can spin it on her finger.”

While the unique effect may be playful, the ring’s meaning is deeply romantic. “Tori and Dean are so interconnected and she is, literally and spiritually, the world to him. I wanted to make a sphere, a world all in diamonds,” says Lane. “To make it sexy, a little Hollywood with a bit of a vintage feel, I put diamonds in it and the spinning movement represents how their worlds revolve around each other.”

When McDermott surprised Spelling with it last week, she was floored. “Tori loved it!” says Lane, who has worked with the couple for years. “Dean is very romantic and sentimental and he totally adores her. The ring represents the significance of their relationship. She rocks his world!”

Very sweet. This marriage didn’t start out right but it sure looks like they are in it for the long haul. :)

It is always amusing that these silly celebrities celebrate anniversaries like a whole 7 years and think they have accomplished something. Stay together for 20 to 30 years, then you are just getting started on accomplishing something. Make it to 50 + and then you can really celebrate.

That ring is as gaudy as she is!! She is fake, has no fashion sense (especially when pregnant) & has found another man to spoil her (first daddy, now Dean) because she thinks she deserves it She also keeps popping out kids in order to (hopefully) keep Dean married to her – poor kids.

I love this couple, and I hope they spend many more happy years together…look at the cute kiddos! But, the ring is horrible! It looks like a globe!

That’s the FUGLIEST thing I’ve ever seen. He should have bought her an IUD, not a ring.

Wow…reading these responses I find it disturbing that people can be so vile as to judge others so harshly. This is about a husband making a loving gesture towards his wife and it dosen’t deserve your negative critism and if your lives are soo perfect…
