Kim Kardashian's Met Gala Designer: 'I Think She Looked Amazing'

When Kim Kardashian hit the Met Gala red carpet Monday, the reaction from PEOPLE readers was, shall we say, underwhelming. Nearly 1500 people clicked the “angry face” and more than 400 people weighed in on the bold look, which consisted of a head-to-toe laced turtleneck gown with attached, matching gloves and shoes in the same floral fabric.

Well, the designer, Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci, heard your criticism, and he thinks you’re crazy.

“People can say what they want … I think she looked amazing,” Tisci told WWD. “She was the most beautiful pregnant woman I dressed in my career.”

He also explained how he came up with the concept for her controversial rose-print gown. “I said, we should give her our punk moment with a romantic beautiful flower-printed dress,” he said. “To me, pregnancy is the most beautiful thing in the world, and when you celebrate something, you give people flowers.”

And Tisci is just as excited for the upcoming Kim and Kanye collaboration as we are. “She is the future wife of a really good friend of mine. I wanted to have a moment of family … Kim, Kanye and the baby. It will be a family that I will be close to.” Hopefully that means we can look forward to onesies with matching gloves!

Tell us: Do you agree with Tisci about Kardashian’s gown?

Because she’s probably the only pregnant woman he’s ever dressed!

of course the designer is going to like his own dress.

Dear Designer: The mirror doesn’t like, she looks like something the cat coughed up.

Her face is incredibly beautiful, the outfit is just very odd as are quite a lot of her choices lately. More than anything I can’t imagine how uncomfortable she was!

The designer is obviously not near sighted. She looks frightening. Robin Williams was right. He did wear it better.

Is he blind, or just a suck up? LOL

Kim K is a beautiful girl, but I have yet to see her dressed cute pregnant. Jessica Simpson is (much) thicker and has managed to look very stylish during pregnancy. So while it may be more difficult to dress someone who is so tiny in stature, there is really no reason why a good stylist shouldn’t be able to make Kim look like an absolutely goddess. The lace dress was an epic fail. It just made her look frumpy. :(

There is nothing “punk” about a floral tube sock and there is nothing beautiful about putting something skin tight on a short, fat, pregnant woman. The great designer missed the mark on this one. She has a pretty face, but the designer has to dress her unattractive body. Matching gloves and shoes? Too much. She looks like an overstuffed sofa.

I surprised the dress doesn’t have a hood with it….way too much fabric — it doesn’t have anything to do with Kim being pregnant or her size. I’m disgusted at people like Dawn making a comment about her being a “thicker” woman. I’d much rather have KK’s “thicker” body than a thicker head like Dawn.

Uhm… that comment reflects poorly on all the other pregnant women this “designer” may have dressed… Whom I’m sure still looked radiant without the need of his clothes… If this KK lady is his best accomplishment… WOW… Better head to the KMart Clothing Section of Expecting Mothers !
