Keira Knightley's Chanel Wedding Dress: Something Old?

Keira Knightley was not only a gorgeous bride on her wedding day; she was also a very practical one.

Rather than wearing an over-the-top ballgown or something straight from the Chanel runway, the star appeared to have recycled a blush pink Chanel number, which she last wore in 2008, for the intimate ceremony in Mazan, France.

That’s not to say, of course, that it was just any old dress she pulled out of her closet. Everything from her matching flats to the coordinating classic jacket was specifically designed by Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld for Knightley, a rep for Chanel confirms, adding that the dress is haute couture.

The dress bore a striking resemblance to one that she’d worn previously with black tights and pumps for a pre-BAFTA party in 2009, though we have to say we love her carefree styling for her wedding day even better.

Tell us: What do you think of Knightley’s wedding dress? Do you love that it may have been her “something old?”

I love the dress, it reminds of Carrie’s dress from the opening sequence of SATC.

Lisa on

If she did there’s nothing wrong with that. I applaud her for doing it low key and not wasting a bunch of money being a show off. It’s about love and sharing your life. Not about how rich you are.

Betty on

I think she looks beautiful and happy. Good for her. Lovely attitude and styling!

nhw8 on

Love it! Seems like she had her priorities straight on her wedding day. It’s about committing to the one you love, everything else is just details!

Jordan on

Absolutely Gorgeous!

I don’t believe in wedding dresses, so it’s fine with me. Wore a two-piece ivory St. John dress which was used many times in the future. Don’t understand the whole concept of spending a lot of money on a dress that will only be worn once.

KF on

She looks lovely!

I wore jeans and a dressy T-shirt to my tiny outdoor wedding. Couldn’t care less about appearances. It’s all about the love and the sacred union.

Chelsea on

I think since she can efforts a big fancy wedding and she made it so intimate she could have at least bought a new dress! I love it as it reminds me of Carrie in SATC but recycling a dress for your WEDDING?!? The most special day of your life? That’s just tacky to me.

People needs to stop using the word “recycle” when stars – GASP – re-wear something. I know I’m being nit-picky, but it’s very grating.

Jane on

The only thing that looks odd is her chest. The dress looks like she’s deliberately trying to strap down her breasts, like Gwyneth Paltrow in Shakespeare in love. It also looks like it was cut just above her nipples.

whatever on

who cares, she’s happy

Ryry on

I love the fact that she didn’t spend a ridiculous amount on something she’d only wear for a few hours. It’s pretty, it fit the occasion . . . yeah!

Sandy on

What a lovely look for her wedding day. If she did recycle, more power to her! It’s wonderful and entirely right when weddings are more about the marriage of the two people concerned than about ostentatious display and wanton extravagance.

Nannyto1 on

Love it… simple but beautiful!

Leslie on

Why does the media have to make such a big deal out of the fact that a celebrity “recycled” an item of clothing?? Big deal that Keira choose to use a dress from her closet (and a beautiful one at that) rather than spend thousands of dollars on a dress that she will only wear once for an hour or so!

It shouldn’t matter if she wore rags… what matters in this case is the love she has for the man she nows calls Husband.

No Chelsea, it’s the most special day of YOUR life. Maybe not everyone else.

Ryry on

@Chelsea, it is nowhere near ” The most special day of your life”. True, it is a special day, but there are many more life experiences that will far surpass your wedding (the birth of your children, the news of being cancer free, etc.). Don’t live life for one day . . . it is much more than that.

To Ryry, who wrote: “True, it is a special day, but there are many more life experiences that will far surpass your wedding (the birth of your children, the news of being cancer free, etc.). Don’t live life for one day . . . it is much more than that”
— I love your comment. You are so totally on the mark.

Pam on

She looks so cute and happy, skipping out of the church.

ALM on

Wearing something for a second time does NOT constitute “recycling”.

So? Some of Brides wore their mother or grandmother’s beautiful wedding dresses. The wedding dresses are timeless and beautiful!

She looked classic and beautiful. Audrey Hepburn is what it reminds me of. If and when I ever get married this is the style I want. I want it very classy but fun and elegant. Forget the strapless over the top dresses! They make a cute couple and I wish them the very best.

tommy on

I love it

@ Chelsea It is not tacky. It is refreshing to see someone, who could afford anything she desired, to wear someone she already owns and presumably, loves. A wedding day is about commitment and celebrating that love. It has NOTHING to do with how much money you spend. Personally, I find ridiculous, pompous celebrations tacky,

I think rewearing a dress is fantastically practical. But that is not a dress I would rewear. She has a lovely figure and that dress does not do her justice.

Ilove it & love her…I wish her all the best & hope she is happy

CJM on

Good for her! She’s one cool chick.

Leslee on

She is blessed with the opportunities to be dressed like a queen on a regular basis, her wedding didn’t have to be her one big moment. I think she made a lovely choice and a lovely bride.

Monika on

I can’t believe anyone finds this noteworthy. It’s a beautiful dress, she looks beautiful in it. Is there any reason she SHOULDN’T have worn it? Really?

Tiffany on

I love that dress. Very pretty and worthy of being worn again.

lisaisalefty on

I love this look on her. It’s a beautiful dress and very charming. Congrats to the happy couple.

susan on

She was beautiful! Good for her!

cj on

People Magazine: it’s really none of your business!! we all applaud her for NOT spending millions.

Yvonne on

Very practical and economical. Not a fan of the dress however because it flattens her chest down badly. She’s naturally small chested anyway, and this makes it even worse. Otherwise she looks very happy and that’s the whole point :) I hope they last forever unlike so many Hollywood types.

Caroline on

It’s not a wedding dress but an old Chanel dress and jacket she wore before. It looks cute. Um, this was in the Daily Mail 2 days ago. Nobody seems to work at People on the weekends.

Gina-Nicole on

Good for her!

Kim F. on

I loved everything about Keira’s Chanel ensemble. She looked so beautiful in it. I wish Keira and James all the best.

Karolina on

I might be in the minority but I don’t the dress! It makes her look so flat-chested and I don’t find it flattering especially as a wedding dress! But that’s just my opinion! She obviously loved it and rocked it, so more power to her I say! She looks really happy!

Misty on

She looks lovely.

Amy on

Lovely. She reminds me of Holly Golightly in her wedding attire!

Ellen on

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with what she did. The only time that I would say no to rewearing a dress for your own wedding is if you had worn it when you married someone else!

Linda on

I have been a big fan of Keira’s since I saw her in Pride and Prejudice. She is my favorite actress. Her wedding only proves my point about her she is not only beautiful, a great actor she is also down to earth. She isn’t so full of herself like many of these stars who have huge weddings and do it to show off. I hope they are very happy for many more years to come. Rock on Keira!

Renata on

I don’t see much problem in the use of the dress for the second time, but…Sorry, girls, but to me the dress is horrible!!! And I see it as a big day for a girl. Maybe later she has other great moments like give birth but for a first wedding and, no cancer news, nor be a mom, it problably was the best day of her life.
