Tabatha's Takeover: Matthew McConaughey Must Be Clowning Around

We all know Tabatha Coffey, Bravo’s sharp-tongued Aussie style pro, from her newest show, Tabatha Takes Over, which is in its fifth season! And now, she’s bringing her talents online, joining us at PEOPLE StyleWatch each week to dish on some of the bestand worst – celebrity looks of the week. Keep in mind the opinions below belong solely to the stylist … though she’s probably saying what lots of you are thinking, anyway!

Today, she takes on Matthew McConaughey, who ditched his cowboy boots for a plaid suit at N.Y.C.’s Mud premiere.

FINALLY! Finally I get to critique a man for PEOPLE StyleWatch and it is someone I absolutely love: Mr. Matthew McConaughey. Too bad he isn’t wearing something fabulous.

What is this clown suit he’s wearing? And what’s up with this ridiculous backdrop? Is he promoting something at the circus?

I’m actually surprised he is wearing a suit of this nature. I would say 99 percent of the time I see him on the red carpet or caught on camera (with a shirt on, anyway) he is well dressed and on trend. Why in the world did Camilla Alves let him leave the hotel looking like this? Such a shame.

If I passed him on the street before he walked into the MoMA to promote his new film Mud, I would have pulled him into a nearby men’s store, ripped off that suit and dressed him in a 3-piece navy blue suit. I’d keep the white shirt the way it is, and even consider letting the gold chain stay to keep the jacket closed.

Before sending him back out, I’d rake my fingers through his hair to break up the stiffness of all that product and let his naturally curly hair fall the way it should.

Tell us: Do you agree with Tabatha, or is she being too harsh? Let us know in the comments below!

I completely agree with Tabatha, as always! The only thing I would add is that I would feed him a sandwich, too!

I never thought MM was good looking. I always thought he was over rated. And taking his shirt off never made him look sexy. Now he looks like skinny toothpick nerd. If he wasn’t famous no one would give him a second look.

Matthew was one of the few “muscle guys” that I actually thought was good looking. I was very worried for his health, when he lost all that weight for a movie. He’s not the world’s most talented actor, and relies heavily on his looks to sell his movies, so taking such a drastic step for a single role was very risky. I was afraid that he would never be able to make it back to the way he originally looked, and it looks like that’s what’s happening. He is slowly gaining the weight back, but his face and neck look so skinny and sickly still. I wonder how long it’ll be, before he looks the same as before, if he ever does? Hopefully that role will catapult him to serious actor status, so his lost looks won’t be quite so damaging to his career.
