Justin Theroux's Style Mantra: It's 'Always Winter From the Waist Down'

Looks like someone may be giving Jennifer Aniston a run for her money in the style department: fiancé Justin Theroux.

He’d already hinted that he was more fashionable than the average guy when he ID’ed Aniston’s dress as “Valentino red,” but he confirmed our suspicions with a piece in April’s Esquire magazine.

The topic: His go-to uniform of dark jeans and combat boots, regardless of the weather. Even he questions the logic of this look, “especially when it means dragging myself through a New York summer with a clambake happening in my boots and my body maintaining the same core temperature as fondue,” he writes.

But, he goes on to say, he just can’t find a decent alternative. “Other options seem almost too grim to contemplate,” he says. “Sweatpants? Cargo shorts? Light slacks?! Just the word slacks makes me anxious.”

His boots, too, are the only acceptable option. They might be “functionally useless, but Teva sandals with Velcro fasteners? What’s the thing with guys who wear those?” he wonders. “I may not be panning for gold anytime soon, but are they going on a hike under a waterfall?”

When he puts it like that, it’s a little easier to understand why he subscribes to the “always winter from the waist down” philosophy. And we get a little glimpse into why Aniston loves him so much: he may lack weather-appropriate dress sense, but at least he’s funny! Read Theroux’s full essay here and tell us: Are you into Theroux’s bad-boy style? What’s your favorite look for guys?

That article is positively amusing and intelligently written. But I’m not surprised because, afterall, he descends from a line of literary genius. I would be surprised if he DIDNT know how to write as good as he does. Handsomeness AND intelligence? Jennifer is a lucky woman.

He’s talking about Jen actually.

‘Always Winter From the Waist Down’. He was talking about Jen’s body.

If I were Justin, I’d get some nice, cool sandals and the dreaded “cargo shorts” for home wear and give those boots and balls a chance to air out. Then put the boots and jeans back on for going out in public.

Amusing comments, but still looks like a dumbass!! Who wants to be near him when he peels all that stuff off after being out in 90 degree weather? ugh the stench! I hope he has brand new pants and boots for every day of the week, yuck!!!! And the whole too-cool-for-school thing is pitiful, shorts are a fact of life my friend. I hope he goes swimming in combat boots

He looks like a thug , poor old Eddie Munster. He just looks dirty and not too good looking.. To each his own.

A pair of tailored, heavy-weight flat-front worn-in khakis or camel denim with a rugged leather belt and chukkas are a far cry from cargo shorts and tevas. I guess he can’t figure out how to keep up his bad-a** image wearing anything else, but to me he comes off as weirdly insecure criticizing guys wearing teva sandals. I mean, this is a guy planning to marry a woman who lives at the beach and spends an inordinate amount of time in Mexico… I’m 100% positive he’s got a pair of leather thongs in his closet.!
