Your Nails Are About to Get a Whole Lot Chicer

02/25/2013 at 06:00 AM ET

When we did a call-out asking you to submit pics of your unique manicures, we were overwhelmed by the number of submissions. So we know you’re as obsessed with gorgeous tips as we are, which is why we couldn’t not tell you about a new polish kit from Julep.

It includes four on-trend colors and a matte top coat, which is unlike anything you’ve ever tried before. Paint it over the lacquer — on the entire nail for a velvety finish, as polka-dots or just on the tips for an updated (and non-cheesy, we promise) version of the French manicure. And best of all, the kit is under $15 with our exclusive discount.

We admit it: We never thought we’d be recommending French manicures to you. (The last time we were excited about the nail trend was when we were going to school dances and wearing baby backpacks.)

But this is like the grown-up, way cooler and more sophisticated sister of the standard white-tips French manicure. And as Joyus beauty expert Mikaela explains in the video, if the contrasting tips aren’t your thing, you can paint the top coat on the entire nail, creating an unexpected matte look.

Some of the editors here are getting super-creative with the kit: using the top coat to create suede-like polka dots, doing a reverse French mani (so the tips are shiny and the rest of the nail is matte) and even rocking alternating matte and glossy nails. There’s no limit to the mani options, especially since the top coat works on any polish you already own.

Don’t forget to enter PEOPLE10 at checkout to get a couple bucks off the regular price on orders $50 or more, plus free shipping. And, of course, upload a shot of the creative manicure you create here!

Love this look, especially the blue and green french manicure looks. I watched video but it does not show how to get this exact look. Any advice? I won’t buy unless I know how to get this look! Thanks.

People I always appreciate your discount codes thanks but this company is charging $5.95 for shipping, so there really isn’t any savings. I’ll stick to my Essie & OPI that I can buy at my local store they also make a matte finish top coat.

You use the colored polish or any polish color and instead of using a shiny top coat (like most are) it makes the polish come out matte. Once your nails are completely dry – get some scotch tape and tape on your nails – except for the area of where a “french tip” would go and then the shiny portion is there and use the regular top coat there. I love doing this and that to my nails. Right now I have 10 different colors on and have flower and bling stickers on them.
