Never has the term high-low dressing been more applicable. Oscar nominee Helen Hunt hit the red carpet in a gown with a label we never expected to see on the Academy Awards red carpet: H&M.

But she didn’t skimp when it came time to accessorize the mall-store gown, adding a Martin Katz diamond brooch to the back of the dress, plus a necklace and bracelets from the jeweler, which Hunt noted totaled up to $700,000 worth of jewelry.

Looks like Sharon Stone will have to give up her title of Most Frugal Oscars Dresser. (The actress famously stunned when she showed up at the 1996 Academy Awards in a Gap turtleneck.) Hunt has out-bargained Stone by wearing this midnight blue silk and satin strapless dress.

Tell us: What do you think of Hunt’s H&M dress?

She could have used an iron, but otherwise she looks fabulous.

Ali on

Wrong, that’s Sharon Stone who wore the turtleneck.

Christine on

I understand that the fabric was made of sustainable product, however it travels poorly. Too wrinkled for the red carpet.

Susan on

Too wrinkled, but a gorgeous color and a very nice dress on her.

Marie Mullin on

Needs an iron, good for her, please don’t post

Ali, you need to go to “Zoolander’s Center For Kids Who Can’t Read Good”.

Helen Hunt is a boss. ‘Nuff said!

Gorgeous dress, but would look oh so much better if it had been ironed!

Helen Hunt’s dress is stunning and COVERS her, unlike young hollywood that doesn’t seem to understand that not everyone wants to see their entire body!

She looks great! Who cares if it’s a ‘mall-gown’. It shows that she is humble and I like that. Not to mention the borrowed diamonds! Awesome woman! Adore her.

Thank you Nora, I was going to comment on that posting and say generally what you said, however I was going to throw in a “dumb ass” with it!!!

Elegant, stunning, beautiful.

Love the dress! Couture@H&M :-)

I love Helen’s H&M choice. H&M is my favorite place to shop for trendy clothes and bargains. The difference is I can shop at other sites and pay more, or I can get the same fashions at a great price at H&M. H&M’s styles are of great quality as well.

She’s beautiful no matter what she wears…

Kirsten Stewart’s hair looks like she just rolled out of bed, and Helen’s dress looks like she pulled a sheet or a blanket off the bed. She needs to do her wash in Woolite.

She may take the most frugal title away from sharon stone but she looks a lot more elegant than Sharon did with the turtleneck.

How is 700000 dollars in diamonds frugal?

Tara on

just makes those other dresses that cost thousands of dollars look ridiculous.

BBB on

I don’t know if it can really be considered an H&M dress if it’s not available to the public.

Earikah on

I love the color but it was not a very good fit and like everyone else has mentioned, very wrinkled…maybe the oscars should have a tent where celebrities can sneak in and gives their dresses a quick steam before walking the carpet :)

She looks great!

Loved her dress, loved her look. Good a see an over 30 actress who is so beautiful and still working in Hollyweird.

Peggy Smith on

She is not aging well at all … looks so old and haggard when they zoom in on her. Well, she never really was that good looking anyway.

Lynette on

Nice … but an iron would have made all the difference!

angryinnv on

the dress needed ironing.

Being a stylist is tough. She was probably steamed and looked perfect, then there is the limo drive. The gown is so bottom heavy there was no way the wrinkles had not existed. She was still stunning!

Yvonne on

She looks great. Makes you wonder why so much money is spent on those award gowns which are never worn again. Great choice, Helen!

Sherri on

She looks beautiful! This is proof you don’t have to spend a fortune to look great!!
