We’ve always said that StyleWatch readers appreciate the power of the perfect little black dress. The two most loved star looks this week weren’t jaw-dropping gowns, but instead perfectly executed versions of the wardrobe staple.

Anne Hathaway nabbed the No. 1 spot, with more than 15,000 votes, thanks to the simple black sleeveless number she wore to the Academy Awards Nominations Luncheon in Beverly Hills. She gave the pretty piece even more polish with black ankle-strap sandals, Jamie Wolf earrings and Jennifer Meyer bracelets and rings.

The runner-up LBD was spotted on Jessica Chastain, who paired her peplum sheath with nude pumps and a pretty pink lip at the The Hollywood Reporter‘s Oscar Nominees Night in L.A.

They should give her the Academy Award early, so we don’t have to watch her pathetic anticipation for two hours.

Best dressed? She’s wearing a plain black dress with plain black heels. And please, People Mag, don’t put this overrated actress in the same sentence as Audrey Hepburn.

Miss B on

PERFECTION. Love her new short hair, the simplicity of the black–she looks amazing.

julie on

Please don’t compare her to Audrey Hepburn. Not even close.

I’m not jealous or hateful but there’s nothing special about this dress. It’s just a plain, black dress paired with strappy sandals, a go to look for women for decades and this makes the list of best dressed?!

felicia on

what is the big deal about this woman??!! so overrated

I like her hair in this picture, and she looks classy. I’m not a huge fan of hers, but she seems to carry herself with dignity, which I cannot say for most of the other Hollyweirdo celebs.

The only movie I liked her in is the Princess Diaries. Don’t get the excitement over her. She’s the Geena Davis of the millennium and where is Geena now?

Ms. Hathaway is a very talented and beautiful woman but please don’t compare her to Audrey Hepburn. She has none of the natural grace, charm or compassion that Ms. Hepburn possessed.

i love anne. she is simple, beautiful, and humble. lovely.

Why all the hate? She is a fantastic actress and looks wonderful and classy!

I hope she always keeps her hair short…she is just charming and it suits her…just like it did Audrey H.

She’s no Audrey Hepburn!

She’s beautiful and seems like a good person, but, I can’t buy into any of the roles she plays in other than her being a princess.

ugh. so sick of her.

I’m sorry but I’m not a big fan of Anne’s but I’m also not a fan of Audrey’s. I don’t see the appeal with Audrey, just as I don’t see the appeal with Anne. Just because one is no longer living doesn’t make her some how more attractive. Or I guess it would appear so, with all the comments on here.

This is a woman who makes the clothes, they don’t make her. She’s stylish and so beautiful, very few woman can carry the short short hair. And a wonderful actor … she really has it all.

Anne like Audrey Hepburn will have short career and then in about 10 years we will wonder why she got so many awards. Hollywood awards beauty and not real talent with the exception of Meryl Streep and Katherine Hepburn. They will always be tops in my book.

Garett on

She always dress nicely and she has a good taste on how to dress.

The first and last time I viewed Ms. Hathaway in a film, was when she played with Jake Gyllenhaal, which I thought was corny. She’s a bit vapid for my tastes, and to compare her to the inspiring gamine dancer like Audrey Hepburn is simply publicity and not authentic. As far as her outfit winning an award for Best Dressed, basic black is a basic classic, so I guess Stylewatch is playing it safe!

I don’t get the “Audrey Hepburn” association. I like Anne but she’s not there yet.

Can we please just give her the academy award now? She is so overrated but she is the darling of hollywood right now. I just don’t get it. When I heard she was given the role of Fantine, I was disappointed but figured “heck, she dies early so it won’t be too painful to watch.” Wish she would just go away.

Audrey Hepburn was never so self absorbed, so please do not compare the two…let Anne be Anne and let Audrey’s fame be her own.

This is a basic black dress. Nothing special

The dress is too long for a woman of her age-makes her look dowdy. Her hair looks cute in this pic.

Hathaway is cute, quirky and awkward. Hepburn was consistently stylish, classic with grace and sophisication, even when playing quirky characters. Only thing they have in common is the short hair style.

Juliea on;s a nice dress that would look marvelous on a number of women. Anne Hathawy doesn’t make it special.

Patrick Wagner on

As a man I always think simple is better, and there is something very intriguing about a woman who reveals very little. I think Anne looks smashing.

joyful on

blah blah blah…. shut up, anne. over you.

Sasha on

Thank goodness I am finally hearing/reading people voicing how overrated Anne Hathaway is! Compared to the great actresses of today, she is mediocre at best. I understand beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but there seems to be a general consensus in there being a balance among facial features. I’m sorry, but her horse teeth enter the room before she does. Audrey Hepburn comparison? Really?

Autumn on

I have seen her being interviewed and NOBODY, NOBODY, NOBODY is that humble and “ah shucks.”
