Between her roles on Friday Night Lights, American Horror Story and most recently, Nashville, there are many questions we could ask Connie Britton. But let’s be honest: What we really want to talk about is her hair.

So we couldn’t wait to get the scoop on that gorgeous mane when we caught up with the actress while she was lending a hand with Curél and Direct Relief International for victims of Hurricane Sandy in N.Y.C. on Monday.

“It is all my hair!” she told PEOPLE. “I’ve had a few people be like, ‘Oh are you wearing extensions?’ And I’m always like, ‘No!'”

The star then went on to show off her extension-free roots, “See completely natural! Feel it back here — no tracks,” she joked.

What isn’t a product of genetics: that beautiful auburn color. “It is not my natural hair color,” Britton said coyly. “My natural color is a mousey brown, but I’ve had this color for a very long time — or variations on red.”

If you’re trying to achieve Britton’s shiny, voluminous hair at home, the star revealed that she likes to use natural, moisturizing products like Wen conditioning shampoo and Privé leave-in conditioner. “My hair is dry, so it’s good to keep the natural moisture in it as much as I can — and that really helps.” Noted. Tell us: Do you love Britton’s hair as much as we do?
