Red Carpet Trend Report: The Scoop on Plunging Dresses, Braids & Odd Pairings

This week’s two up-and-coming fashion fads are ones that we can definitely get on board with: super-sexy necklines and funky braids. But we have to admit we’re a little sad that summer is most definitely over and it’s finally time to retire this week’s on-the-way-out look.

Up: Plunging lace dresses: A down-to-there neckline ups the hot factor of any look, but it’s especially sexy and unexpected when it’s seen on a lace dress. Must be something about the combination of an utterly ladylike fabric and the va-va-voom silhouette. Case in point: The flash of skin on Abbie Cornish’s metallic gray Reem Acra gown. It added a youthful vibe to what could have been a slightly stuffy look. And just when we thought this look was best suited for young stars, Cynthia Nixon hit the red carpet in a plunging lace Calvin Klein number and proved to us that there’s no age limit on this trend.

Up: Braids with a twist: After a summer full of boho braids and fishtails, plaits are getting yet another revamp for fall. And with two of our favorite fashionistas wearing it, we’re pretty positive this trend is just getting warmed up. If you’re thinking of jumping on the funky braid bandwagon, look no further than Jessica Alba’s side French braid (that weaved into her side ponytail) and Kiernan Shipka‘s braided crown.

Down: Dresses with biker boots: Don’t get us wrong, we love a good LWD teamed with killer boots. But here’s the thing: Adding black tights to Krysten Ritter‘s ensemble doesn’t work. So, unfortunately, the pairing will be shelved until temps start to rise again.

Tell us: Which on-the-up trend would you try? Vote below!

Sorry to break it to you dolls BUT Boots with dresses is nothing new – at least not in the South. Still cute though.

Those type of boots with a dress looks tacky.

Since when are cowboy boots “biker” boots?

You know, there is nothing new under the sun. These so called “modern” hair styles and clothing trends are nothing but a re-manufacture of other styles in the past. The only thing “modern” about any of it, is that you’re wearing it in 2012. It’s still old news.

In Texas we wear boots with everything…and it’s not a trend it’s something we’ve always done

Since when are these hot new trends? Who decided that. However, I do like the braid into a side pony. Cute.

Gee, new and modern. Not so much!!! I just bought a dress for a semi formal event. Its new. Its a vintage 1950’s inspired dress. I love that ladies dressed as ladies. I have even had a pill box hat made to go with it. New? Yes! Made in the modern age? Yes! Still 1950’s inspired. Everything is inspired by the past. History repeats and reinvents itself constantly.

Braid to the side I wore in 1981 to my 8th Grade Prom.
