Michelle Obama's Debate Look Was Actually an Old Favorite

Michelle Obama put her blue-state love on display during Wednesday night’s first presidential debate, selecting a crisp dress and jacket for the big event (on her 20th wedding anniversary, no less!). But she didn’t have to go far to find her ensemble: the First Lady actually re-wore two Preen pieces she’s donned twice before.

Mrs. O debuted the “Lavender” dress and “Mia” jacket in May 2011 (right) while traveling to London with the president (noteworthy, since designer Thornton Bregazzi is based there). She wore it again in January of this year (center), while giving a talk at the U.S. Department of Labor. Each time, she changed up her hair and accessories, giving the outfit a slightly different twist.

But her love of the line doesn’t stop there: she wore Preen’s blue, green and white “Wren” dress to a March taping of The Late Show with David Letterman, and the colorful, patchwork “Chequers” frock to official events in May and July of this year, adding a coordinating blazer the second time around. The looks are so effortless, they don’t require much ‘Preen’-ing! Tell us: Did you like the First Lady’s debate look?
