Guess that $55,000 was well worth it! The Duchess of Cambridge tops the Vanity Fair best-dressed list this year, nabbing a spot for the third year in a row.

The magazine lauds Kate’s recognition of British designers — Alexander McQueen, Alice Temperley and Matthew Williamson among them — as well as her ability to mix high- and lower-end styles.

Joining Kate is her brother-in-law, Prince Harry, who makes the list for the first time ever (sadly, Prince William is not named). Rounding out the famous royals is Monaco’s Charlotte Casiraghi, daughter of Princess Caroline.

There’s major Hollywood representation on the roster, as well: newcomer Jessica Chastain also lands atop the list, joined by Diane Kruger (making it for a second time), Fan Bingbing, plus Colin Firth and his eco-conscious wife, Livia. Jay-Z and Alicia Keys represent the music world, while New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz earn props for their off-field looks.

Matt Lauer, Alice + Olivia’s Stacey Bendet and designer Stella McCartney are also applauded for their senses of style. The September 2012 issue of Vanity Fair hits newsstands nationwide on Aug. 7; to see the full list, click here. Tell us: Do you think Kate deserves top honors? Which other celebrities would you put on the best-dressed list?

Wow, I never noticed what a long neck she has.

That snide remark about the $55,000 is really a cheap shot. The Duchess is KNOWN for buying ready-to-wear clothing and recycling her outfits every chance she gets. Yes, she wears designer clothes as well; and every time she does, UK style businesses get a shot in the arm. About her neck: I’m thinking massive photoshopping, as I’ve never seen another photo with a giraffe neck before.

She is very beautiful inside and out!

It is very annoying to me that every time Kate is written about, she is referred to as Kate Middelton.
She is not Kate Middleton anymore. She is the Dutchess of Cambridge, and should be referred to as that. It is also not rite for the magazines to put a price on some of the clothes she wears. Kate is not like that at all. She is so down to earth and genuine.

If she is down to earth as you say then I am sure she does not mind being called Kate Middleton instead of her title. You pretty much contradicted yourself there.

I absolutely agree I love Kate and the way she mix matches her outfits! She is absolutely gorgeous! And has a handsome husband! Yes they need to show her respect and call her by her right name!!!

With respect to her budget $55,000 is not a lot of money considering what most celebs spend on one pair of shoes. She should get more.IJS!!!

Emily on

Did she even take his last name? Is she still Kate Middleton (a.k.a. the Duchess of Cambridge) or is she Kate/Catherine Mountbatten-Windsor?

Elizabeth on

$55k is NOTHING! Most of our first lady’s have spent far more than that.
