When jeweler Neil Lane landed in Curacao for The Bachelorette finale, he carried with him six handmade engagement rings.

“All of them had elements that were inspired by Emily,” Lane tells PEOPLE exclusively. “I had met with her a number of months ago just to get a sense of her style, of her personality. I designed six rings with Emily in mind but you know what? I really concentrated on this one particular ring and I hoped Jef would see it too.”

Turns out, Holm did just that, and on Sunday night’s finale, the Utah-based entrepreneur proposed with Lane’s favorite, a 3.5-carat emerald-cut handmade sparkler accented with 87 smaller round-cut diamonds.

“As soon as Jef saw the ring, he knew it was the right one,” says the celebrity jeweler. “He really understood her style. She’s very sophisticated, very beautiful, elegant and classic and the emerald-cut diamond has those elements. She exudes grace and style, with an elegance that reminded me of high society of the 1920s when that stone was very fashionable.”

That said, Holm didn’t make his decision hastily — he briefly considered a ring that had pink gold in it because, says Lane, “He knew she liked pink” — and took the ring selection very seriously.

“Jef really put a lot of energy into it and he was very sincere and excited during the whole process,” says Lane, who has little doubt Maynard and Holm will enjoy a happy ending. “The guy was smitten and really in love. He was very sweet about the whole thing. I felt he was very genuine and was really looking forward to this journey with Emily. I’m so happy for them!”

I think I would take this more seriously if the guys actually paid for the ring. Maybe they would too.

If Jef is so rich, he shold pay for the ring. Andrew Firestone paid for his own, and that was a classy move. Maybe that’s why none of these couples make it. There’s no investment!

Very good show!

Did anybody else notice how it said that Lane has little doubt that Maynard and Holm would have a happy ending?!?!!??? It doesn’t make sense because he is talking about how great JEF is!!!

I love how Jef says she is “high society” Um – after going on this ridiculous show (which I love) you are anything but high society. More like low level fame wh0res. haha. I have no doubt these 2 have a lot of money together, but money doesn’t make you classy, sorry guys!

An expensive diamond doesn’t guarantee lasting love and happiness. I give this so-called relationship a year, tops. They might make it, but the odds are really against them.

I feel she picked the wrong guy. Why didn’t she introduce Ricki to Arie? He might have done a great job too! Before her date with Jef she didn’t know and because he interacted with her daughter so well, she picked him? We will see what the future will bring, but I don’t believe it will last, his Mormon faith might become an issue as well…

Congratulations to Jef and Emily.
Wishing them many years of happiness.
the ring is very beautiful and suits Emily.
Great Job Neil Lane in designing such a stunning engagement ring! We are all thrilled about this engagement!

This show is anything but classy. Anything with Fleiss in it is NOT classy. Emily spends a lot of time and money to look the way she does and it works for her. Jef is sweet, but its a lot of change for Jef…istant family and a new location. The ring is really nice. I do agree with one post that when there’s no true investment its hard to really appreciate everything. The second bachelor paid for his own ring…the guy that proposed to Helena. Not sure about Firestone…

I am so thrilled Emily chose Jef. They are perfect together. I couldn’t be happier for them both. I believe his Mormon background will help them stay together. I think both of them exude class. I love the way Emily refused to do the over night stays. I love the show, but hate that part of the show. She showed class for herself and in front of Ricki. Best wishes to them both. And good for them for going to Africa on a mission trip and away from all the synics. It will give them a better start to their relationship.
