Vera Wang and Husband Separate; Did Her Black Wedding Gowns Foreshadow a Split?

Vera Wang’s Fall 2012 bridal collection was heralded by critics for its beauty, elegance and unique color palette; many of the designer’s dresses were blush, nude and black. But looking back on those romantic gowns, one has to wonder: was there a hidden message inside?

Wang and husband Arthur Becker announced that they were separating on Wednesday, after 23 years of marriage (the couple wed in 1989 at New York’s Pierre Hotel, WWD reports). “They remain devoted parents to their two daughters,” Cecilia and Josephine, Wang’s company president, Mario Grauso, said in a statement to WWD.

Though Becker reportedly had his own business ventures, he was also involved in Wang’s company, which has expanded into makeup, fragrances, mass market, juniors, home goods and a lower-cost bridal line in recent years. However, a friend of the designer tells WWD that the couple “will not let this impact the running of the company. They have worked too hard to build it up.”

Wang, who started at Ralph Lauren in 1987 and opened her first private salon at New York’s Carlyle Hotel in 1990, famously designed Kim Kardashian‘s three opulent wedding gowns in 2011 (plus sister Khlo√© Kardashian Odom‘s dress in 2009), and created Hillary Scott’s custom gown for her January 2012 nuptials.

Another celebrity divorce does not surprise me. It’s the norm these days.

Imagine being a groom who’s watching your bride approach in one of those dark dresses and, worse yet, her expression is the same as those models.

If those dresses are “beautiful”, “romantic” and “elegant” wedding gowns, they must look a lot nicer in person than they do in the photos.

Maybe they’re the bridesmaid’s dresses? …in which case I’d say they’re perfectly in keeping with what brides like their friends in the wedding party to wear!

I saw a documentary on her several years ago. They were not getting along. I thought to myself then that they would not be married much longer. . .I wonder how long they have been separated.

Totally agree with black for a wedding dress! Why do these designers change the traditional color. I guess people asks for these blah n drabby colors…she is a bit droopy herself, very plain–she needs color–if she has a make up line, she really needs to use it!!

As a man I actually like the idea of a black wedding dress. Think of it this way. When a woman is attending a chic party the little black dress is a staple. This is a more elegant and formal extension of that. It’s about what meaning you put on it. Remember there once was a time that it was a big no no to wear white after Labor day too.

What is really sad is that they couldn’t wait until after their wedding anniversary? It really must be a bad breakup if they couldn’t wait that long, so sad!

Black or White…is NOT the reason they are divorcing. It is a relationship issue and has nothing to do with her designs.

Sorry to hear this, but I’m glad it was an Amicable Split and that they’ll remain devoted to their 2 Wonderful Daughters, Cecelia and Josephine!
