New job, new hair color! At the FOX upfronts in New York City on Monday, Demi Lovato was announced as one of the new X Factor judges — and debuted new blonde locks, too.

Before her trip to New York, the singer popped into West Hollywood’s Nine Zero One Salon Friday night, where her hair was transformed from brunette to blonde and blonde extensions were added. According to a source, the starlet said this is the lightest her hair has ever been — and she wants to keep it this way for her upcoming tour, which kicks off in Del Mar, Calif., next month.

Last year, Lovato tried red hair temporarily, going blonde several months later and eventually returning to her natural brunette hue.

At Monday’s upfronts — where Britney Spears (pictured in a Stop Staring dress) was introduced as a new judge, too, wearing a form-fitting Stop Staring mini — Lovato expressed her excitement about the new job. “I am totally stoked to be here,” she told the crowd. “I’m excited to represent my generation and I’m ready to find the winner.”

The X Factor, which also stars Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid, returns to FOX later this year.

okay…people, britney AND demi have worked really really hard to bounce back from dealing with their mental illnesses. They have made absolutely fantastic progress and will no doubt make more as time goes on. If you can make these cruel, insensitive jokes about bipolar and depression, you’ve obviously never gone through it, or known someone that went through it. Therefore, you don’t have the right to judge them and comment on their conditions. Just leave them alone and let them continue their amazing recovery.

Best of luck britney and demi!!! :)

Demi sings great, and Britney is well Britney, she is an idol.

BUT both girls have had mental issues in the past, and I don’t think is a good idea put them is this position, brings lots of attention in front of cameras, and arguing with the other judges their opinions, judging other persons with the pressure of being mentors and take decisions for them

Can’t wait for this season!!!

Britney has people handling her affairs like all celebrities. Its just that her family is her financial management. Britney does have the right not to do something. They just manage for her. Britney has regained full custidy of her kids so she must not be that bad.

GuesT- you should be ashamed of yourself…..

Seriously Simon. Paula actually had past experience in developing other talents.

What about someone who’s opinion we as a public would respect: Barbara Streisand, Diana Ross, Celine Dion, Tina Turner, Madonna, Beyonce, etc….

I wouldn’t take seriously what Britney or Demi would tell me about my performance. The above women I’d be all ears.

And I was so looking forward to this season, not anymore.

GuestT you shouldn’t make fun of someone who has a mental illness…I am bipolar also. It’s not an easy thing to live with all your life. She can’t help it… She went and got help;so she’s taking control of her life. That’s a horrible thing to say about someone.
