It was a hairstyle made famous on and off the silver screen: Mia Farrow’s pixie cut, introduced in the 1968 horror film Rosemary’s Baby. “It’s Vidal Sassoon!” Farrow proclaims during a light moment in the movie. “It’s very in.”

Sassoon — who died Wednesday at the age of 84 — was paid $5,000 by Rosemary’s Baby director Roman Polanski to give Farrow the new do, according to The New York Times. And on Wednesday, in the wake of his death, fashion’s finest remembered Sassoon for such revolutionary cuts and styles.

“He changed the way everyone looked at hair,” Vogue creative director Grace Coddington told the Times. “Before Sassoon, it was all back-combing and lacquer; the whole thing was to make it high and artificial. Suddenly you could put your fingers through your hair!”

Indeed, the stylist shunned curlers and setting sprays, opting instead for easy styles like the five-point cut, which the Times described as “a snug, sleek helmet with a W cut at the nape of the neck and a pointed spike in front of each ear.”

Coddington, a Sassoon model in the 1960s, remembered the look fondly. “He didn’t create it for me; he created it on me,” she said. “It was an extraordinary cut; no one has bettered it since.”

Those cuts were fabulous, and were real hairstyles unlike the long, stringy, hair parted down the middle of today. Girls… the 60’s died over 40 years ago! Get a grip, and a haircut!
Mia looked elegant in that pixie haircut. Hopefully Hillary will get the point also.
