Looking Perfect at Plus Size: Which Actress Dressed Best?

We admit we were drooling over Elle MacPherson last night — that body! that hair! — but some other ladies on the Golden Globes red carpet also had us doing double takes. Octavia Spencer, Melissa McCarthy and Amber Riely all swathed their curves in gorgeous designer gowns, highlighting their best features and leaving us with a case of fashion envy.

Spencer — who nabbed a best supporting actress award and gave another moving acceptance speech — looked lovely in a lavender Tadashi Shoji V-neck cap-sleeve gown with jewel detail. The Help star was still searching for a Globes gown last week, but definitely found a winner.

Meanwhile, funnygirl McCarthy opted against a design from her own label, and instead chose a long-sleeved V-neck emerald gown by Badgley Mischka, sticking with several of the night’s big trends. Glee‘s Riley selected a dress by the esteemed design duo, too, rocking the red carpet in a strapless fire-engine dress.

All three stars were perfect 10s in their Globes gowns, but we want to know what you think. Tell us: Which plus-size star dressed best?

I agree Jen, why is it necessary to single out these three? Sheesh, People mag!
I LOVE Melissa McCarthy but didn’t care for her dress at all. It has nothing to do with her size, it was just a horrid dress.

i think Amber does she always looks amazing but Octavia looks amazing too im not trying to be rude but Melissa doesnt look that great in that dress

Really, you had to create a separate best dressed category for the women who aren’t size 0? Ridiculous!

Melissa needs to fire her stylist immediately! I am a woman of size and would not be caught dead wearing the “tent” Melissa wore. Did she even look in the mirror before she left the house! The woman is very talented, but she has yet to wear a dress that flatters her even slightly! Just ghastly!~ I am not a hater, I love her work. I am just speaking from a personal opinion.

Ridiculous that people ragazine felt the need to single out plus size women, and then have readers pit them against each other. Some idiots need some sensitivity training.

Why is this even a category? That is just wrong discrimination. That said, I think all three looked lovely. Just a shame that this had to be pointed out as a category.

First off, when you are plus sized and have large arms, please cover them up some. Cellulite on your arms in public–no sexy. I guess I would like Octavia’s dress the best if it had sleeves. And the green dress in the middle–it does nothing for her at all. Not a good dress. Love the red dress; but again–cover up your arms. Bare arms that look like overstuffed sausages, not a good look. Just as actresses with skinny arms and saggy skin–also not a good look.
