Katniss Everdeen lights up the opening ceremonies of The Hunger Games in a daring pyrotechnic unitard the people of Panem love. And while we’ve all imagined what the dress might look like in our own minds, we’ll have to wait until the movie hits theaters to see the finished product.

However, InStyle decided to get ahead of the game, inviting designers to sketch their visions for Everdeen‘s fiery costume. Christian Siriano, Christian Cota and Charlotte Ronson (sketch at left) seem to stay truest to the book, though designs by The Blonds, Rachel Roy (who includes the teen’s Mockingjay pin in her ensemble) and Tadashi Shoji are equally impressive.

Ronson included a spot for Everdeen‘s treasured bow and arrows in her design, and wanted the cape to “appear like a fire running through the forest.” Head on over to to see all 12 designer interpretations, and tell us: How do you envision Everdeen’s opening ceremonies look?

Yea…was Charlotte high when she made that? It’s not even a dress.

For Reals! How is a unitard a dress?

“I’m in a simple black unitard that covers me from ankle to neck. Shiny leather boots lace up to my knees. But it’s the fluttering cape made of streams of orange, yellow, and red and the matching headpiece that define this costume.” …

That’s actually spot on…

I see… then shouldn’t be calling it a dress…

@Mouse that is not the Girl on Fire dress, that description is from when Katniss and Peeta ride the chariout around the arena. So yes that costume is spot on for that moment in the book. But that is not the Girl On Fire description in the book, which was a dress!

Christian Siriano, hands down. It’s a great dress, and works true to the book. Christian Cota’s is OK, too.

I’m sure the costumes are going to be stellar. I just wish Josh and Liam’s roles were reversed. I can see Liam as Peeta so much more.

[…] Amazing, eh? Also, InStyle had a bunch of designers design the dress that Katniss wore to be presented to the capital.  Some are kinda outrageous and some are pretty badass. I mean who doesn’t want a suit like the one below. Come on. Check out them all out by clicking here. […]

I like this design best. I looked at all the others and many were way too Femme Fatale or sexualized. The look Cinna is going for is GIRL on fire – something about strength and intensity, but also a piece of innocence. Stick to the black unitard and the cape. Also – Peeta is wearing the same thing, so it has to be more unisex. I’m looking forward to the style aspect of this movie!
