Lauren Conrad: It's Okay to Recycle Holiday Party Dresses

Feeling overwhelmed by the number of holiday parties on your calendar in the next few weeks? Not to worry: it’s okay to rewear dresses. At least that’s what designer Lauren Conrad says — and personally, we trust her opinion.

“During holiday parties I end up recycling a lot of my cocktail dresses, and just wearing a layering piece, like a blazer and tights, with it,” she tells

Conrad designed Paper Crown dresses, skirts and tops for the holidays, all of which take the spirit of the season into consideration. “When I was designing, I was really keeping in mind the types of things you do during these months,” she explains. “You’re going to a lot of holiday parties, and you want to look festive and still put together. So we had a lot of fun with that,” adding fun prints and details like delicate bows to various pieces.

While looks from her line are on our wish list, FabSugar wondered, what’s on hers? “My wish list for family is always something I can eat, drink or burn,” she says. “I don’t need a lot of things. So a nice scented candle, or a bottle of wine, or just treats — those are always fun.” Tell us: What’s on your holiday wish list?

Never wear anything more than once it’s tacky…even socks

Erika on

TOP STORY!! wow…

kiko on

Oh no! And, to think I’ve been just throwing them away so they wouldn’t be worn a second time even by someone who picked them up for pennies at Goodwill. I guess I just misunderstood “recycling” my clothes and “wearing them twice.” I’m so confused.

I am so glad that I finally go the “okay” to wear my clothes more than once. Here I was spending all this money on clothes and having to get rid of them after wearing them only once. Now I have 1 less thing to worry about. Now maybe I can concentrate on more importnant things…

This coming from someone who looks like she’s wearing a doily? Yeah….

I used to absolutely love Lauren Conrad. She had amazing style, an entertaining reality show, a role model personality and a great couple of books. I hate to say it but recently I’ve forgotten about her. Honestly, she should just sign up for another show to remain in the spotlight. By doing so, all of her fans will come back.

Heaven forbid I ever wear anything more than once. Lauren Conrad, your 15 minutes of fame are up. Go away.

I can’t stop laughing! She is giving fashion advice and we should care????

I think she is so cute, why are most comments so rude, who cares if you know her or not, don’t comment

Wearing clothes twice is NOT recycling! OMG! What morons!

Ellethekitty on

its not recycling. It wearing it again.

Good article. Nice to have positive reinforcement from a designer. Most like to make the masses feel like they need to constantly change it up.

Erin on

Well if Miss. Lauren says its ok to recycle than it must be.

Rolling eyes.

Beacher on

She’s not a designer. What a joke. I can’t believe people would actually care what reality skids like her and Kim K. think.

Chaka on

She has such a lovely name! Lauren! So sweet…
But I don’t think LC can cook/make/buy clean fresh meals like the more lovely Rachael Ray….

The way statement is written, it’s like we’re supposed to be like “oh she’s so humble and non-materialistic”. In other words, she’s a multi-millionaire, so no, she shouldn’t be asking her family for expensive/large amounts of gifts.

omg…I washed a shirt I wore last week and wore it AGAIN TODAY! I should be shot, seriously

I think it’s too funny how people click the article….read it and then take their time to complain/put down the person in it/b*tch about it’s content. PEOPLE is not CBC/BBN/Financial Post!!!!!! STOP COMING TO THIS SITE AND READING THESE ARTICLES IS YOU ARE GOING TO GRIP ABOUT THEIR TOPIC. Esp the people who take poorly about the persons appearance or status. Get over yourself and look in the mirror, see something much better? Honestly, you just sound like ignorant, condescending, sad, sad people. :)

I love Lauren AND the fact that she doesn’t care if she is seen in the same dress more than once. For us, recycling outfits is a given. Duh. But for someone who has her picture taken 100+ times a day -it’s cool that she doesn’t care. Kudos to you, Lauren

aj2300 on

You are all just jealous hens!!!!! She’s beautiful, and I would much rather take her advice on fashion sense than any of you nobodys.

Purelica on

Yay! …and I was going to turn my dress inside out, so it’d look different. *Whew* Thanks, Lauren. You’re a lifesaver!

I can’t believe how many of you don’t understand what she is talking about. She’s not talking wearing your clothes more than once, she is talking about wearing the same dress to a party on Friday and adding a blazer or something different a few days later.

It amazes me how many mean spirited people there are in the world.
