Kirsten Dunst: Melancholia and Shopping
David X Prutting/BFAnyc/Sipa

She may be known for crater-deep dimples and alabaster skin, but Kirsten Dunst says she’s all grown up.

“I’m currently cleaning out my closet of childish dresses,” the Melancholia actress explains in the winter issue of T Magazine. “I want to start dressing like I’m 30. Some of the things I have are like, ‘I can’t wear this anymore, it’s not cute.'”

Items on the star’s shopping list include basics from A.P.C. and Balenciaga, which she stocked up on after a self-imposed shopping hiatus. “I didn’t shop for a long time,” she confesses, “People bother you.” Not on the agenda? Trendy items and New York-sourced vintage, which she dubs “too expensive.”

However, like most women, Dunst is a sucker for sartorial romance. “I like it when I do a photo shoot and it’s a fantasy of something,” she says. “You can dress me up.”

She is so beautiful!

Good for her. I think a lot of women try to dress like they are 16 and it just doesn’t work for most of them. It’s possible to dress your age and still look and feel young at the same time.

bea on

She looks lovely either way.

ERH on

sounds like a good move–can she go advise Madonna to do the same?

Kt on

Erh- hahaha! Great comment.

dj on

She looks lovely. Now maybe Jen Anniston and Julia Roberts can take note and try to age as graceful.

Amy Hale on

Good for her, and I agree with her. At 30, it’s time to dress like a grown up. There is nothing more pathetic than a women in her 40’s dressing like an 18-year-old. I also think women in their 60’s look ridiculous in LONG bleached blonde hair. And so many old actresses do this. At 60, you’re Grandma, and nothing a man would check out anyway.

Jason on

Now if she can only ACT her age.

I wish Kristen would give Jennifer Aniston some tips. The woman will be 43-years-old in February, but she seems to be desperate to cling to her youth long past. (insecure) Women like Jen don’t seem to realize that ‘sexy’ isn’t always about the T&A or nude magazine covers.

People bother you!?!

Niki on

Nice to see one female celebrity who knows when certain clothing styles aren’t age-appropriate. Way too many others need to take note.

Jennifer Aniston always looks great. She works out hard, eats right and has a great body. I don’t know what issue people have with the way she dresses. It makes no sense.

I like her an all but her face looks like she’s reaching 40 and not 30. She’s been at the botox doctor and her lips are taking on the Joker effect. I hope she stops now because she’s a natural beauty.

Jay on

She’s only 30, good grief, that is young. A woman doesn’t need to start watching the mini hemline and kid looking stuff until she is nearing 40, then it’s good to start dressing classy and watching the hemline and kid-funky looking stuff.

thats right on

I thought this article was going to be about how she is going to dress more young to reflect her age, she usually dresses like a grandma.

I just saw her at a restaurant last weekend and she looks very naturally pretty (no botox) and well-dressed.

How much are they paying you, People, to keep posting stuff about her on your web site. Enough!

I think this is absurd she is so young, she should say this when she turns 50, looks at older actresses they dress young, you can dress age appropriate and still be youthful, she is ageing herself, not dressing age appropriate. She is so boring.

mrsw on

Good for her. I am a little sad when I see some Hollywood person , in their forties or more, who dress like they are half their age. I see someone, like Heidi Klum, with a dress or skirt on that barely comes down to there and I cringe. It just looks beyond inappropriate. This is always a matter of just because you can, should you? I think the classics rather then trends always work well and the women in them look amazing. Common sense in Hollywood is rare to find. Go for it Kirsten.

Stella on

Perhaps she might also learn how to speak like a thirty year-old.

I liked Kirsten Dunst since Interview With A Vampire in the 90s. Her best films were Bring It On and Crazy Beautiful. She dressed well and youthful in the 00s. She doesn’t need to change much, but as a woman in her 50s, born in 1954, I understand. I was born same day as Christie Brinkley, who I emulate, and thanks to following my Daughter Alana, who is 35, I dress decent for my age. Kirsten should emulate all the older stars and news women and celebs. People like Demi Moore and Ashley Judd and Tv’s Kelly Ripa.

Liz on

She has always dressed in really unattractive clothes. Either she needs a stylist or needs a new one. She has been improving lately tho.

Nichole on

Amy Hale…can you make any more of an ageist comment? Look at Helen Mirren…the woman is very attractive and sported a red bikini to boot. Obviously, to you, older women should just hang it up after a certain age. Believe me, it doesn’t matter what age women achieve, they want to feel attractive to those that they’re attracted to. And, by the way, men DO look at women over 60. I know couples that didn’t meet until their 60s and they’re still going strong…in all senses of the word.

I don’t know, 30 is not near old yet, and I was very petite and little at 30 so I still wore the teeny bop clothes just because I could fit in them and looked younger than my age and also, because I liked the clothes. How we carry ourselves should be much more important than if we like a cute young outfit….I love being girly and want to wear what I want and not let a number determine that for me.

kel on

there is no hard and fast rules on how to dress come a certain age. come on people when it comes down to it clothes are nice but they really mean nothing!

Raven on

that is the best i’ve ever seen her look. stunning. keep it up, Kirsten.

marco on

Dress like any age as long as it looks good..

Barbara on

I think she looks lovely in this picture.

Age is just a number. Your only as old as you feel. I ve seen some 50 yr olds looking better than some 20 yr olds… I am in my 20s and like I said age is just a number….

ch on

Women age-we all do.Some things become inappropriate.True.
But the fashion police need to back off. Some people remain youthful into their 60’s and it’s not because they wear teenage fashions or get plastic.
Health, fitness and spirit stay fresh and strong and they have a right to express that. Are women relegated to a Victorian shelf because they turn forty?
Get over the grandma stereotype.

I missed Kirsten~ I’m glad she’s back! She’s been one of my fave actresses since i was a kid. Good to have you back Kirsten!!

Thanks for the ideas you talk about through this site. In addition, many young women exactly who become pregnant tend not to even make an effort to get health care insurance because they worry they won’t qualify. Although some states currently require insurers supply coverage no matter the pre-existing conditions. Prices on these kind of guaranteed plans are usually higher, but when taking into consideration the high cost of health care bills it may be a safer strategy to use to protect your current financial potential.
