Armie Hammer's ManscapingCourtesy DETAILS

He earned rave reviews as twins Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss in the hit film The Social Network, but in Armie Hammer’s latest role, things have been a bit hairier.

Hammer, who plays plays Prince Andrew Alcott in an upcoming Snow White film, says when producers wanted him to shave his chest for a scene with love interest Julia Roberts, he had to put his foot down. “Julia had a line about how smooth my chest is,” he tells Details magazine, “and it’s not. So the producers were like, ‘Okay, just shave him.'”

But the actor, who says his wife is the one responsible for keeping him grounded, wasn’t exactly into that idea — even if it was for an A-lister like Roberts. “I was like, ‘WHOA. I spent 25 years earning this chest hair. I’m wearing purple tights and a codpiece, so, please, let me keep my manhood.'”

If BEtte DAvis would shave her head you can shave your chest.
You will NEVER be an A-lister.

Thank you! I hate seeing a man with his chest hair shaved.

I remember reading about Robin Williams shaving his entire body for a swimming scene in The World According to Garp, and then the scene got cut. I’m sure the film will be just fine with Armie showing some fur.

@Dora: I *hardly* think shaving his chest hair is important to the plotline or subtext of the moment. It’s moments like this that help an actor ‘own’ a role.

You’ve got an awful lot of hate on for him over some stupid chest hair.

I’m sure no actress, including Bette Davis would shave her head if it was utterly unimportant to the story being told. Why should an actor shave his chest if he doesn’t want to and the most pressing reason is because there’s one single line in the script that can easily be cut? That’s dumb.

I saw Hammer in The Social Network and he was great. I don’t care if he becomes an A-lister or not, I just hope he getting good roles and giving good performances. Best of luck to him.

Sorry, left out a word above. I meant to say that I hope he KEEPS getting good roles and, you know, the rest of it.

I think a shaved chest is really stupid anyway. Men are hairy but nature. To see a shaved man all I can think is that he is way too vain.

don’t like hairy chests, but it’s his choice so good for him

Gees Dora, lighten up! It’s not that serious.

I don’t blame him, I can understand what he means, and he looks on his New Magazine Cover, but not even for Julia Roberts, darn, lol!

But I bet he’ll shave his crotch in a minute…

After living with my husband for 20 years, and being around his friends, I have a sensitivity about hairy chests and backs. I see how much it hurts the great men in my life for being chastised for being men. Real men are hairy. Why must they be always protraid as pre-pubescent children? I cannot tell you how it hurts a real man for being a real man. But I hear it. It’s about time men stood up to this fantasy that a shaved man is sexy. It’s cruel and unrealistic. And you ladies that chastise men for being men are just as cruel and realistic. Remember that next time someone tells you “Its not the pants that make your butt look that big.”
