Molly Sims’s May engagement weekend was full of surprises, from a Sex and the City-esque wedding proposal (it happened in her closet!) to a touching post-popping-the-question visit from her parents, courtesy of husband-to-be Scott Stuber. “He picked my parents up in a town of like, seven thousand, in Murray, Kentucky, in a private plane!” Sims told PEOPLE Saturday at the Chrysalis Butterfly Ball in Los Angeles. “Trust me, they were shocked!” Stuber’s reasoning for the trip? “Her mother is a Southern woman, and I wanted to be a good Southern gentleman and go ask her parents in person, and bring them along,” he said. But Sims had no idea her parents were part of the plan until after the proposal. “I called my brother and I was like, “I can’t get ahold of mom, I can’t get ahold of dad,'” she recalled of the hours before her engagement. “And finally about nine o’clock, I called my brother and I was like, ‘Listen, mom and dad are missing! I just want you to know that.’ Then, when Scott asked me, I called my brother back and I was like, ‘I’m engaged!’ and he was like, ‘I know.’ Then I went downstairs and my parents were at the kitchen table.” It was then that Sims got to reveal her ring, a glimmering, cushion-cut sparkler. “I love everything about it!” she told, adding that she had “no idea how big it is.” Probably because she wasn’t privy to the details: “[Stuber] designed it,” she said. “He did it with my girlfriend on his own. He surprised me; I never sent him a picture. He did it all.” Tell us: What do you think of Sims’s ring? –Kim Peiffer, with reporting by Reagan Alexander

I’m happy she’s engaged, that’s great, but I am from her hometown and I am so tired of Molly acting like it’s Mayberry. We have over 10,000 students alone at Murray State University. It is not Podunk and people aren’t that shocked by private planes, we have an airport here.

I understand that some people love gossip and want to know about their favorite stars, however, there are more important issues in this world than who gave who a diamond, engagment ring.
I wish that there would be a column about world issues where a strong woman would talk about it and invite other women to give their opinions, complaints, etc.
My issues at concern are animal welfare and the welfare for those less fortunate. I am a member of Peta and WSPA for the protection of animals. I am also a member of the Make A Wish Foundation, a foundation that helps children with illnesses. We need to empower women and educate them to speak about world issues and not just leave it for the men to talk about because all they think about is how to make money. In example, the owners of a pet shop here in my hometown of Rockville Centre only think of how to make money out of selling exotic parrots and other endangered species. They don’t think about what they are doing to these poor animals that live in cages and what they are doing to the environment.
Please add columns that make a difference in this world. Women like me have had enough of movie stars that make a lot of money but don’t contribute to society. Thanks.

It figures the haters and soap boxers would take this opportunity to turn this into their own forum!! Can’t you just be happy for the girl? This is an uplifting story, not doom and gloom. Just be happy for the girl! Congrats Molly!! What a special surprise for you! Thanks for my first smile of the morning!!

First off congrats to Molly Sims on her upcoming wedding! Second I would love to know where Elsa got the impression that People Magazine would be a place to find stories about helpless animals and other world tragedies. This is not Time Magazine. If you don’t like what the article is talking about or even the types of articles they cover; why are you reading it?! Not everyone wants to read something that is depressing or upsetting to them. In a world gone crazy a little love is nice to read about.

That is just wonderful! Good for Scott to do such a romantic proposal and also make it a family affair– Perfect start to their life together

I agree, if you want to talk about those other issues, go to the appropriate website to do it – not If you’re not interested in hearing about celebrities, then what are you doing here in the first place?

Congrats to Molly, it’s a BEAUTIFUL ring! I hope them all the happiness in the world.

This is a magazine about celebrities and style. It is not a magazine that is meant to solve the world’s issues. Although your point is valid this is not the appropriate place to air out issues concering animals, women, etc. Besides, if you didn’t care about Molly Sims’ ring then why are you reading this article? Go to a different publication’s website and read about world issues. This is definitely not the place for that.
And congrats to Molly Sims.

Elsa, you are totally out of line…Why in the world would you not only read but also comment in People Magazine?

I think it is a nice story and am happy for the couple :)

I wish People would include information about who these people are. I have no clue who Molly Sims is. I guess I could google her, but I don’t want to know that badly. LOVE the ring, though!
