Tom Cruise‘s oldest daughter is joining the family business. While Isabella “Bella” Cruise won’t be lighting up the silver screen anytime soon, she’s recently taken on the role of apprentice at stepmom Katie Holmes‘s fashion label Holmes & Yang. “Kate’s designing and [Bella] is just working her way up,” a beaming Tom Cruise told PEOPLE at the Simon Wiesenthal Center and Museum of Tolerance National Tribute Dinner in Beverly Hills Thursday, where he was joined by Holmes and son Connor. “She’s an artist, Bella, so it’s really great that she gets to work with it,” he added. “She’s loving it.” While her family gathered at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel to support Cruise, who was honored with the Humanitarian Award, 18-year-old Bella was on a flight back from New York City where she’s been learning about the burgeoning Holmes & Yang line. “This is my wife’s company, so you talk about movie sets with me, I can tell you [about] that,” Cruise joked while attempting to explain what exactly his daughter is doing with her step-mom’s brand. “You’ve got to go to all these different factories and verify and make sure you get the correct clothes,” he said. And is the father of three proud of his daughter’s new design aspirations? “I am,” he confirmed. “It’s wonderful!” —Jessica Wedemeyer

give me a break..

who cares on

Please.. do you honestly think if her daddy was not Tom Cruise, she’d be let anywhere near a fashion design? NOPE…. nepitism at it’s finest.

Geez Marion, Bella Cruise sure showed us, she’s becoming a designer for her STEP MOM’S company…

That sure had to be a hard job for her to get.

Sorry, one more way for the Cruises to control Bella. I thought she was thinking of moving in with her Mother. Tom Cruise is such a dope too. Every statement he makes he sounds like he can’t form an intelligent sentence.

If you have ever seen an interview with the Cruise/Holmes – Suri choses her own clothes and is very INSISTENT on what she wears…..even if she NEEDED a jacket I suspect neither Tom NOR Katie will MAKE her do anything….they have said she is a very STRONG WILLED child :) But my goodness she is CUTE!

Amazing that BOTH adults HAVE COATS ON and Suri is SLEEVELESS on a cold day…..and niether Bella nor Kate look happy to be with each other…Just another way for Tom to control his woman…PUT A COAT ON THE KID

I wish Bella (and Conor) the very best! I imagine it’s difficult to be in the shadow Tom, Nicole, and now Katie. It very odd that Tom is so excited for Bella but can’t talk about what she’s doing. That shows that he’s probably not too involved with his kids. I used to be the biggest Tom Cruise fan but he got way too weird for me. Kate seems like a beaten wife and they better stop babying Suri. It’s rare that Kate doesn’t carry her. Tom will be with Katie until his next movie with a hot girl. These actors and actresses jump around with their co-stars like there is no tomorrow!

That’s nice to hear, good luck to her on that!
