Serena Williams's Hot Pink Bodysuit Explained

Serena Williams Pink Bodysuit ExplainedCourtesy Serena Williams

When Serena William posted a TwitPic of herself playing tennis in a hot pink bodysuit last week, she sent the fashion world into a frenzy. “Honestly, I just Tweeted a picture in the suit and I didn’t realize it would go that crazy,” she told PEOPLE Tuesday night at the Range Rover Evoque Event in N.Y.C. And while she finds the attention to be fairly amusing, the story behind the suit is a bit more serious. “After my hematoma, I have to wear something like a long bodysuit to keep my stomach warm,” she explained, adding the skintight suit helps for compression purposes. “My practices are really … interesting right now.” Williams, who was first sidelined from the tennis courts last year by a foot injury, then her health scare, said she hopes to return to the sport soon. But she wants the focus to be more on her form, and less on her infamous fashion. “I think I’m going to come back casual,” she shared. “I don’t want to shock too many people too much. I want it to be all about my tennis.” Off the court, her illness and injury have also affected her style: “I have to wear flats,” she said, not so happily. “Hopefully, in the summer I can wear heels. I am a girl that loves heels. I can’t wait.” Until then, Williams, who said she’s “on the up” and “feeling so much better,” is “counting her blessings” and planning her next practice outfit. When asked how long she’ll be wearing the bodysuit for, she cheekily replied, “As long as you guys want to see it.” —Jenisha Watts

Can’t wait for her to come back. Wish her nothing but the best. Scary thought about all the recent health scares. Prayers that nothing else occurs. Love Serena!!!

Dear Serena,
If you want people to focus on your form/Tennis and not on your fashion, please stoppppp wearing those h.i.d·e·o.u.s clothes to the court. Please and Thank you

Maggie on

Medical reason… ok I can see that… but can’t you put a skirt over it? That’d be a bit more tasteful… but then again she rarely dresses tasteful anyway. But glad she is recovering and hope she comes back soon! She is excellent at what she does!

heather on

maggie, no one is making you look…

Bre on

A skirt over that? Are you serious? That would look horrible. Her medical condition was VERY serious.
Go Serena!

WOW wee my favorite color too

Hey now! I really like her as an Athlete! And have followed her career for many many years! Her and her sister… I am in no way bashing her so y’all can just back off! Its just that Im sure there are other alternatives to what she can wear. And I know the magnatude of her medical condition. Believe me I know!!

I wish the tennis world would go back to a dress whites were so much more classy! now many look like they’re headed to a rock concert!

Thank you Jan

“I want it to be all about my tennis.” — It’s about dang time! I’m so tired of watching her suck all the class out of tennis with those tacky outfits she puts together!

Jon on

Interesting to hear, but since it’s for Health Reasons and what shoes she has to wear, then I’m glad it’s helping her out!

Off the charts … sexy!

First, I am sure that those outfits she wears are intended to encourage the ones that can’t to get back into shape, the ones that can surely love them. Second, the men love them regardless of what you close minded women think. She is attractive with a great body and obviously a great mind. She designs her own clothing. So keep shopping at JCPenney and layoff a sister!

Jean on

This is ridiculous!!. There are under garments you can wear for that purpose! Give us a BREAK!!!!

She did what she needed to and wasn’t asking anyone to watch. the sad thing with celebs if they are having an off day and want to for go getting fixed up to go somewhere well the cameras are out and ready. I wish her the best in recovery and not being afraid to be differnt just don’t show it all …leave something to the wonder.. Good Luck

It’s amazing how some people are critized more then others when it comes to reporting news. People are so funny to me. Serena has done things in her life then you will do in a lifetime. I love her fashison. keep up the good work Serena.

YUCK,on so many levels!

GiGi, if you were a real tennis fan, you would focus on her form and her outfits would not bother you. What you are is a Serena hater. If she wore what you wanted her to, you would still find fault with her. There’s just no pleasing some folks. If you don’t like it and it bothers you that much, don’t watch.
Womens tennis sucks without her.

My husband had a pulmonary embolism (blood clot in lung). While he was recovering, he started throwing clots in his legs & arms. He was in ICU for 3 weeks, and is now on blood thinners for life. He had to wear compression stockings, and all the other garb in order to protect himself. While on blood thinners, the slightest cut or bruise can send you back to the ER. Granted he didn’t wear pink, but whatever Serena has to do to protect herself so be it. Just glad she is recovering & back on the court!

I cannot stand Serena Williams! After her outburst with the lines lady, I will never watch her again! What a disgrace. I hate that pink suit. SOmeone so heavy shoud not wear something like that.

The love and concern that is felt on this post is so overwhelming. I guess life would be perfectly great if we were all the same…All tennis player wearing standard white uniform, who cares what type of human beings they are, how charitible they are, who cares if they do a little drugs (*meth, or whatever)on the side. So long as we all fit into society’s perfect little box…What a wonderful world that would be.

P/S: Dear People, Please consider doing away completely with all commenting because not EVERYONE deserves to be heard, especially when majority of it is pure hate! Please and Thank you :)

It’s actually not that flattering.

Get well soon Serena and kick some booty on the tennis court!

so, your fashion sense is a skirt over this charming one-piece knockout of an outfit?

this outfit rocks.
would like to see her play tennis in an minus the neon of all black one-piece, all navy one-piece, etc.

‘would be nice to see this trending for a while.

best wishes Serena on

the shoes should have been a light shade of pink.

Karen, she was talking about herself so should she have used the word “you,” instead of “I”?

honestly, she’s not running for office or just finished a team sport.

simmer down and find some love in that heart of yours?

I guess if her butt was flat as a pancake then this would be suitable for some of you. Grow up!

ann on

I am so proud of her, and any woman or man who chooses to be whomever they are, and to heck with what any other person thinks they ‘should’ do. For those who are so critical of her pink body suit, just remember…God didn’t put you here to be the judge of anyone else. You probably wouldn’t like what people have to say about you if they chose to print it..I would almost bet that! To each his own, and I wish I had more ‘non-conformity’ in my own blood..what a ride that would be! God bless Serena and keep her well!

Kim on

Do we really have nothing to talk about other than what Serena Williams is wearing during a practice…LOL. I am amused by many of the comments here – what she wears is NOT that serious!

I send my prayers out to Serena & Venus and pray they have a full recovery soon! I started watching tennis because of the William’s sisters and am addicted now! It really hasn’t been that great this year without them playing although Wozniacki, Stosur & Radwanska are doing great! I pay for a 2nd DVR so I can record all the tennis mainly the Grand Slams, ATP and WTA tournaments. When they are on I am glued to the TV. My plan was to go to the US Open this year but after I heard neither of the Williams would be able to play I cancelled my trip. I’m looking forward to 2012 tennis season and Pray both of them will be back for all the Slams. Love, love, love Tennis and Serena & Venus!!! Wandab of San Jose, CA

Yeah right Serena, after taht facelift and nosejob ( in the slightest so no one figures out ) you have now started showing signs of coming back … since your surgery for your face has stabilised.

you did get a haematoma but taht was an offset of your facial and nose surgery and not the foot injury you got.

Be honest serena, people are fed up of you lying and trying to pick up attention like an ADD patient.

The ones who support you are mainly black and no matter how many murders you commit they wrongfully support you and attack others for saying anythign against you. its like people should not dislike or cannot dislike an individual at all anymore.

Anita on

Why the uproar over pink? She looks fierce in that body suit. Let’s us know she’s getting back in shape and ready to play for us again. Why does she need a skirt over that to practice? Key word, people… practice!
I’m just glad she’s practicing and on the mend! Come on, Serena!!! Wear whatever you want as long as you win!!! Yeaaaa!

Deonte on

raul you have problems, tell me again how do you know she had a nose job. Im sorry by the way your talking you would think your with her everyday. so shut up and mind your own bizz

You are the best in tennis.

I give Serena and Venus both props on their fashion sense and talent, Serena’s catsuit was awesome, she has the body for it so don’t hate on her curves. I haven’t watched tennis since they left, and I’m very glad they’re both back; because the Williams’ sisters are TENNIS and the game is nothing without their talent and passion.
