Bridezilla she wasn’t. When Kellie Pickler tapped Badgley Mischka for her wedding gown, she gave them total design freedom, she says. “I really didn’t ask for anything at all,” she tells PEOPLE. “They just took such great care of me and did it all. I just stood there and instantly fell in love with it.” The feeling was mutual, say designers Mark Badgley and James Mischka, who told PEOPLE they’ve been fans of Pickler’s since American Idol. “She has such a pure, kind spirit and we were thrilled when she asked us to design her wedding gown,” they said in a statement. “The classic ballgown silhouette is perfect for her amazing figure.” Pickler’s favorite detail on the ivory duchess satin strapless gown, which featured crystal beaded accents on the train? The tulle ballgown skirt, which could be removed to reveal a mini dress beneath. “I took the skirt off as soon as the ceremony was over and wore the short dress for the rest of the evening,” she says. The gown, however, is hardly a throwaway. “I will treasure, treasure that dress,” she says. “It’s such a classic, timeless gown that I would love to pass down to our children.” Pick up this week’s PEOPLE, for all the details on Kellie’s island wedding. –Eileen Finan

Kellie, I am so happy for you. Your dress is beautiful. My own daughter just got married in July so I am still in a wedding high. I wanted to go to the Mississippi Valley Fair to hear you sing but I was moving that week instead. Your song “I Wonder”is so special to me. The first time I heard it I had to find out who you were and have been a fan ever since.

You are a sweetheart with a beautiful voice. I followed you on American Idol and still remember your personal story… I wish you only the best–take care.

I love this dress, I but it was not an original design for her. It’s Badgley Mischka’s “Mallory;” I know because I used pictures of it for inspiration for my own original wedding dress.

Love the dress and love Kellie!! I wish my wedding dress had had a removable skirt like that!! I got so sick of draging around the skirt and train all night (I did have ties to bustle it but my lovely husband caught the hem with his shoe and ripped the ribbon, lucky it was in the skirt and not visable but it still ment I was holding it the rest of the night!!)
She seems so happy, she is just glowing!! Love her and love her music and wish both Kellie and her husband a lifetime of happiness, being a newlywed is such an amazing time (My husband and I got married in August, loving married life!!)
