Valerie Bertinelli's Wedding Dress by David Meister Revealed
Courtesy David Meister; Inset: Berliner

When designer David Meister got a call that Valerie Bertinelli needed a wedding gown in less than two weeks time, he didn’t blink. He’d created dresses for the actress since 2008, and they were easy collaborators. Three fittings later — all in the last week! — and the result was a stunning pale blue silk chiffon gown that Bertinelli rocked during her New Years Day nuptials to longtime boyfriend Tom Vitale. With a nod to 1940s old Hollywood glamour with a plunging neckline and draped sleeves, the gown also offered a front leg slit for a dose of “modern sexy” while the color was simply one of Bertinelli’s favorites. Best of all? “It accentuates all of her best parts,” says Christopher Lane, Bertinelli’s longtime trainer. “That’s the way you want look when you’re in a wedding dress — you feel sexy, curvy and comfortable in your own skin. Valerie loves her curves and embraces that. She’s got a tiny waist, incredible legs, she’s got some hips and a beautiful bust. The dress shows off her tiny waist and also shows all her curves in the right way. And it’s a great color!” For all the wedding details and the exclusive wedding album, pick up this week’s issue of PEOPLE, on newsstands Friday. –Elizabeth Leonard

Finally, a divorced woman with enough class NOT to wear a white wedding dress for a subsequent marriage ceremony. Good for her!!!

Oh Elizabeth, quit being an idiot. White means purity. Show me a bride who’s pure on her wedding day. Brides should be able to wear whatever they want on their wedding day regardless of any previous marriages.

Beautiful dress and a very unique and beautiful color for a wedding dress.

FYI – the color white was from the Greeks – white symbolizes “joy”, not virginity, so anyone can wear white, even all of the first-time brides who are not virgins…and white dresses didn’t come into vogue until the Victorian era – white was considered a rich person’s color as the material was very expensive and the dress not was expected to be worn again. Most brides used their best “day” dress to get married in.

Valerie is a cutie. She truly deserves a happy life. I wish her only the best.

Excuse me, Elizabeth.. aka “Miss Manners”.

My first marriage ended in divorce, and when I remarried I wore white. And I’ll tell you that I had every right to: My first husband was unfaithful to me, and also abandoned me. The ending of the marriage was not my decision.

So, keep your narrow-minded opinions to yourself. This is not the medieval era. Divorced people need compassion, not judgement.

Love, love, love Valerie! I wish her a lifetime of love & happiness with her new husband.
