Royal Wedding Gown Buzz: A New Designer Name Emerges

Speculation has been building on both sides of the Atlantic about London designer Bruce Oldfield—suddenly rumored to be the front-runner to design Kate Middleton’s wedding gown. The reason for all the hype? Just days ago fellow British designer Ben de Lisi (a red carpet favorite of Kate Winslet’s) reportedly told UK newspaper The Daily Telegraph, “There are lots of rumors [about who will design Kate’s dress], but I’ve heard it is Bruce Oldfield.” Fanning the flames is Oldfield’s refusal to issue a complete denial. “That’s just Ben’s opinion,” his rep told the paper. Oldfield has made no secret of his desire to design Kate’s gown, telling WWD: “If I was lucky enough to be asked, I’d be delighted. I’m already dressing her peers.” And then some: The couturier spent a decade designing for Princess Diana—helping to transform her, he has said, from “a baby” to a style icon. “Kate has such a gorgeous figure that she would look stunning in anything,” says Oldfield. “I would design a simple silhouette with sufficient detailing to give it a sense of occasion, but not so much as to drown her slight frame. Her dress might be traditional and elegant, possibly even demure, but I’m sure she would want a modern twist; a nod to fashion.” –Suzanne Zuckerman; reporting by Simon Perry

I for one cannot wait to see them on their wedding day. The dress in the picture is amazing, I hope she chooses something like that for her wedding day.

I for one am excited to see her dress and I love to read about the Royal family. Prehaps its because here in the USA we do not have a Royal family, so its fun in a way to see it all. I mean all we have right now are the Obama’s and well, lets just say they will never be as interesting as the Royal family.

I can’t wait to see what dress she’s in. She is stunning and she is probably the best thing to happen to the royal family since Diana. A nice fresh face, William is so happy, they will have a lovely wedding. Love to hear all about this!

If you don’t want to hear about the royal wedding, you probably shouldn’t come to this website for the next 6 or 7 months. Like it or not, the wedding is a BIG deal and some of us like reading about it!!

If you don’t want to read about this anymore than why are you. We have libraries you can go to and a whole slew of magazines or newspapers. It’s your own fault. I think you just want somethng to complain about.

I guess you can get anybody to design a dress I likes the look of it but my Wedding dress looked more like a 1920’s Flapper & I wore flowers in my hair. If you have the money, do what you want with it. Thank you Lenett Merry Christmas

This is (hopefully) a once in a lifetime thing, that deserves to be celebrated, but to a certain extent I hope this modern, civic minded couple will keep some things modest. A lot of people in the UK are having a tough time..I think it would be hard to watch a lot of taxpayer money go into it, when there are the daily struggles of paying bills.

Hopefully this couple will be together a long time, which would be a change from most of the royal marraiges (which are just about as successful as The Bachelor tv show pairings)

I think Kate is trying to make a sarcastic point that love can be contrived, many people are becoming lemings over her clothes, and some people care more about pop culture than politics. Although this may be true for some people you can’t blame some people for being opportunistic and making a buck or euro. haha

Yes always cracks me up when losers read the headline, click on a story, obviously read the article then take time to post, “who cares?!!” Well, you do apparently!
