In the past year, actress Sara Rue has learned a lot about setting goals and working hard to achieve them. The Jenny Craig spokesperson, who lost 50 pounds on the weight loss program, accomplished her latest goal by running her first half marathon on Sunday—and completing it in a remarkable two hours and 27 minutes. “I feel so happy! It’s awesome!” Rue told PEOPLE at the finish line. “Now I understand what people have been saying about having a runner’s high. I’m in the best shape of my life. Less than seven, eight months ago I couldn’t even run a mile. This has been really empowering.” Rue, 32, ran the City to Sea half marathon, which started in downtown San Luis Obispo, Calif. and ended in Shell Beach, Calif., with her personal trainer, Christopher Lane. “When the race started we were being passed by hundreds of people,” Rue said. “I was a little discouraged and I tried to joke with Christopher by saying ‘hey, I don’t think we’re going to win this thing!’” But she didn’t let herself get psyched out and instead, focused on keeping the 12-minute mile pace she trained for during the summer. “Once we settled into our pace, I just started enjoying the run,” said Rue. Following her every step of the way was fiancé Kevin Price, who filmed Rue along the route, and even ran alongside her “for about two-tenths of a mile,” she said, laughing. After the race, Rue celebrated by going out the lunch (she had a healthy grilled chicken salad!) with Price and friends. “I wore my medal to lunch,” she said. “I had to. I didn’t think I’d enjoy [the run] as much as I did. It was empowering and fun – fun!” –Monica Rizzo

She looks great. People always say “I’m sure anyone who gets free Jenny Craig food, free personal trainer to force you to stick to your work out plan and on top of all that gets paid to tell their story in public would look great as well”. Not true, you have to have determination to stick to anything and apparently Sara has it because she’s doing and looking great. I pay for my food, pay for my gym membership (can’t afford a personal trainer), don’t get paid to tell my story (who would care??!!), but I think I look great too. Hard work pays off. Go Sara.

Come on, if Jenny Craig treatment was free, I will be skinny too, this is not reality, it is bs, regular people don’t have the luxury of having ppl cooking for them.

Oh give me a break Meagan, you don’t have to have someone cook for you to be skinny, nor do you have to have a personal trainer….I run 5 X a week and just use portion control when I eat and have kept weight off. Running is free, situps, pushups, lunges, squats….yep ALL FREE! Reality is people keep finding excuses for being overweight. If you have a medical issue that is one thing otherwise, there is no excuse.

Eh – I worked for Nutrisystem when they had prepackaged food just like Jenny Craig, and saw most of the people who came through the program fail to reach a weight loss goal and/or keep it off. I sometimes fantasize about having a personal chef who would only cook healthy meals, but there certainly are opportunities all over to cheat. It really does take a change of heart and mind. Good for her!

No, Meagan Joczy, I don’t have the luxury of having other people cook for me but I still managed to lose all of my baby weight and then some by paying attention to what I ate.

I sit down on the weekend, take a look at my pantry and then plan meals for the week so that I can make a list of what I need from the store.

It doesn’t take long as all to figure out a healthy menu for the week. Very often, I’ll cook a larger amount of food one night so that we have leftovers (and I can skip cooking) the next night.

If I’m making something that involves a fair amount of prep like chopping lots of veggies, I do it the night before.

Lack of time is no excuse for not eating well!

i’m with you JAMTX, i go to the gym 3 days/week (the “y”) and its def about portions….i also wait tables 4 nights a week and burn a lot off on my feet….for anyone tryin to tone up, drop a little weight….just do it. i have dropped 30 lbs in the last 3 years and trust me, i have two young kids and a hubby and we ALL love sweets and junk food….its just about portion control…and exercise, and having some healthy food in your diet too! To JAMTX below, “If you have a medical issue that is one thing otherwise, there is no excuse.” – give ME a break, you pretend to know what’s inside every person in this world (medical or not) – there are many, many, many reasons why someone could not lose weight, even without a ‘medical’ reason – maybe when you grow up you’ll understand that we all walk this life with our issues – maybe you’ve never experienced any and this would explain your insensitivity to others and their journeys.
